Quote:
. . . in the lead-up to the 2010 midterm elections Emanuel and Michelle Obama were at odds over whether the president should pick up the mantle of comprehensive immigration reformer. The chief of staff saw no point in pushing for legislation that had no chance of passage. The first lady, who had just been confronted by a second-grader in a Maryland elementary school whose mother didn't have immigration papers, felt that ignoring the issue was fundamentally at odds with her husband's own political story.
According to the new book "The Obama's". The chief of staff and Mrs. Obama were at odds whether to push for reform before the 2010 elections. Obviously, a strong push wasn't done because the president reasoned that pushing for something that wouldn't pass wasn't in his best interests.

Luis Gutierrez told everyone who listened that Rahm was the White House obstacle who opposed the president's push for CIR. And this a**hole was voted in mayor of one of the cities with the higher concentration of hispanics in the country,

Obama is at fault too for following Rahm's advice.

He was thinking politics, thats all. If they pushed and it didn't pass with the 60 vote majority, it would have been tremendously damaging to both Obama and the democrats (because the blue dogs wouldn't have voted for it in the Senate). Now, they are 100% sure it won't pass and they can actually use the Republicans as scapegoats, they couldn't do that in 2009

I ran into Rahm on the train while he was campaigning for mayor. Told him exactly what I thought of him. Now that he's taken office, he's been trying to take on the unions. I don't know how he can call himself a democrat. What an asshole.
