The beneficiary must then apply for removal of the condition status after this 6 year period. If the process is affirmative, then a beneficiary can begin the process of naturalization. This process can take upwards of a year. Then, once a DREAMer has earned his or her citizenship may he or she begin the process of petitioning for their parents to obtain a green card. If they are successful then their parents would have permanent resident status and then may begin their own journey to earning Citizenship. In total, you are looking at almost a decade before any purported "back-door amnesty" or "chain migration" occurs.

FAIL #2: Not allowing a potential DREAMer any path to permanent residency or citizenship ever is just plain cruel and stupid. It suggests we are guilty of a crime and are consequently being forever punished because of it.

FAIL #3: Border security bullshit.

FAIL #4: See my post on this thread for an explanation of why mandatory military service is unjust.

FAIL #5: Basically, you're only comfortable if the smallest possible number of potential DREAM Act beneficiaries gain any relief.

FAIL #6: No one is advocating for citizenship. The DREAM Act only seeks to offer conditional residency.
You pointed out everything that I noticed wasn't true about that article.
The only reason 99% of those interviewed were OK with it is because many of them don't care or don't want to enlist in the military.

I don't know if it's just me or did anyone else notice the tone of this article almost sound condescending?

The way they throw the word "compassion" around and then denounce any way for us to gain citizenship is absurd.

correct me if I am wrong but if you are a college graduate don't you enter the military as as higher rank than say an 18 year old high school grad? Its not to say that it would be easy but being an officer in the military is way different than working your way up from nothing & we also have to think with a degree you are likely to get a job in that filed obviously geared/focused on the military's needs but it wouldn't be so bad. & to all of those that say that they hate the yelling, the waking up early, the working out and the punishements (doing dishes, scrubbing floors) just remember that we put up with much more as dreamers. a lot of us put up with so much BS from our bosses just because we need to keep our jobs, we wake up hours earlier that we normaly would just so we can take the bus to school or work, and we are happy to have jobs even if it is cleaning floors or doing dishes just so we can scrape up enough money to pay for another semester of college, we work out like crazy because its the only thing that helps keep us sane at times.... so if we really want to be here we have to be willing to take whatever opportunity the give us. lets see how much longer they will continue to play their political games... = (

Dream Act + Border Security + E-Verify is passable.

Exactly! They think that we're going to tolerate anything that they throw at us.

So basically, they'll extent a hand, as long as they simultaneously get to remind us for the rest of our lives that we aren't good enough to be second class citizens... Instead we're second class guest workers.

No.

We have fought way too long for our future to let something this stupid come along and tell us "Hey listen, you're still a criminal, we don't really want you here but the conservatives need the latino vote so we're gonna help ourselves out, and try to benefit you as little as possible on the way. Is that cool? Doesn't matter, you'll take whatever we hand y'all."

Sorry, this is not our fight.

We are not fighting to be reminded for the rest of our lives that we're not quiet good enough. We are fighting for the future. Think long term guys.

This? This isn't acceptable. They think they've beaten us up enough that we'll settle for whatever scraps they throw at us. This is not the case.

We get back up. The world shits on us, we have a pity party, we get back up, and go right back to fighting. This would be us accepting that the world can legally shit on us for the rest of our lives.

Don't settle for any less than what we've been working for for the past 10 years
