You are right all the way, things will heat up in June-July, but of course it will also heat up due to the fact it's an election year. But I feel there is not enough political capital or will on any side to get this done this year or maybe even possibly not next year. The gulf between both sides is too large and compromises scant.

What individual who gets arrested doesn't get taken into custody and once in custody his/her background NOT checked?? Independently of immigration-related anything.

Any person in the course of an arrest should be background checked - public safety comes first. So, the problem is if you are undocumented, but don't have a criminal record AND do not engage in criminal conduct. Guess what? Any federal ICE agent can target you 100% lawfully if they want to check if you're illegal. You could be feeding the ducks @ the pond and if they so feel, ask you for your identity and status.


"Collateral" immigration raids have deported thousands and thousands more have been taken into custody by imm. police simply because of status; no criminal record and/or conduct required.

Then what? Arrest and background check. State and local police officers OBVIOUSLY have to check those after arresting someone, whatever the reason =S.Comm.

So, again, S-Comm=Immigration enforcement co-op by local, state and the feds.
Lower standard="More" (immigration enforcement) work done by others @ less cost to the feds, but still the work they want (deport) will get done.

June/July is useless, do-nothings, Congresspeople's summer break.

By heat up I don't mean in terms of legislative action I just mean in terms of strategy and insults, SB 1070 gets ruled on in late june, then of course for the next week we'll see all the typical reactions and political tricks to be unfolded once Sept comes around.

She only recused herself because her vote wouldn't count. If it is a tie (4-4), then the decision of the lower court holds. So regardless of how she would have voted, the result woudl be the same. This was just a way to give legitimacy to her deciding not to recuse herself from the health care vote, where her voice will actually matter.

Obama is a huge dissembler on immigration, and anybody who worked in his administration is about as trustworthy as Kris Kobach for this issue.

Yeah but then if there is a tie, the other states can keep passing immigration enforcement laws. Only if the law is completely struck down will it effect the other states. The ninth circuit only holds in the ninth circuit.
