Right, he is just being real plus he said he wants to pass before fall semesters. Plenty of time left.

Lol.

Looks like someone finally took him aside and explained to him how the immigration system works.

I've been saying it for a while, but the kind of system that Rubio wants to implement simply can't work. He's trying to carve out an entirely new niche in the immigration system without any idea what he's getting himself into legally. For example: the whole bit about military service? Well, his DA bill would have to change the recruitment practices of all branches of the military because right now (iirc) you need to be at least a permanent resident to apply for military service. It also doesn't make any sense for the military to recruit people that may end up working in potentially sensitive positions if they don't have any ties to the US other than a "sort of" visa.

Correct me if Im wrong, but wouldnt it be the same for the original DREAM Act. Under the DREAM Act we would be granted 6 years of "conditional permanent residency" to complete 2 years of college or military. Conditional permanent residency doesnt mean we'll get a green card, does it? So under the DREAM Act the military would also have to change their recruitment process?

To be quite honest, I don't think anyone really cares about the military service part, because all of the services are at 100 percent recruitment right now and probally don't want more people applying.

The time has come to face the music. This is going to be the final YAY or NAY for DA. The House will decide the bills final fate and seal the decision forever in the history books. Therefore we must fight the good fight to ensure our bill gets the chance it deserves. Better to go down having fought and campaigned tirelessly for passage. No regrets later. Awaiting the CBO's analysis desperately.

A large part of my dream is to join the Marines so it made me happy that I would get a clear path to citizenship. Now I'm more happy to support the bill. Before I felt afraid it would take the rest of my life to become a citizen under the non-immigrant visa. I hope it's not so bad for those that will not join the military. I mean just the influx of applications worried me. I just hope it comes out soon. If they are just waiting on that one piece of information they should have at least an estimated completion date. That to me seems shady.

I've always thought about that. Because the military portion is important to me. And I hope there is some sort of provision that allows dreamers to apply to the military.

With conditional permanent residency we would be able to do anything a permanent resident can do except apply for pell grants. It is conditional because if after six years you haven't completed school, were arrested with a felony charge, or dishonorably discharged from the military it would be stripped from you. So applying for the military under current standards would not be a problem under the DREAM act. But I'm still unsure about the language regarding Rubio's bill. Apparently there is already a bill from President George W. Bush that expedites citizenship for permanent residents that served in the military. I'm not sure if that only applied during a certain part of the war, or if it still applies.

Also from what Rubio said I sort of deduced that being honorably discharged from the military would grant you a green card meaning you don't have one initially. So maybe dreamers will be allowed to enter the military with a non-immigrant visa. But that makes me think that he expects us to have a long documented residence in the US. Maybe that alludes to how strict the age limit and the arrival cap might be...

Ok guys, from what i know, you can only join the military if you're a permanent resident (green card) or citizen. Rubio's DA does not grant you that, but only a visa. The original DA grants you conditional residency, which WILL let you join the military (trust me). So if Rubio's DA passes, he will have to manipulate some military requirements in order to let us join.
