That would be so stupid. "You can stay here, but you still cannot work . . ." It would basically and "unintentionally" set all of us up for self-deportation.

^What do you think an intentional guaranteed Executive Order for Deferred action would do?Precisely the same but with just a work permit for 1 year. All Deferred action paperwork comes with a Notice to Appear[Removal Proceedings].

I think they should seriously just update registry to 1996.

Updating the registry to 1996? Wouldn't that leave out some Dreamers that have been in this country for 15-16 yrs? That's not a good idea.

I thought changing the registry date was always a feasible solution. But would that be enough? My issue is what happens to the people that came after whatever date is chosen. Is it too unrealistic to hope that if this is the route chosen by the administration, that it could at least be somewhere in the early to mid 2000s?

I've seen 1996 thrown around a few times (both here and in articles advocating the registry change), but why this year and not 2001, which was also an important year (245i and September 11th)?

Your logic makes sense. If they were to update the registry, it has to be somewhere in the 2000s in order to cover as many Dreamers as possible, at least those that've been here for 5 yrs....

"Does the President really have this power? He does. Immigration enforcement is squarely in the hands of the executive branch — and the President, of course, heads that branch. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has a name for the benefit the Dreamers are demanding — “deferred action status.” Usually it is granted on a case-by-case basis, but Obama has the authority to grant it on a group-wide basis." If he gave us all deferred action status we would get employment authorization cards. With those you can get your license. Obama doesnt even have to EO this, he can just put a memo out there saying give all dreamers deferred action for the next four years or something like that.
