Look at section 2 of the bulletin:

2. Section 201 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) sets an annual minimum family-sponsored preference limit of 226,000. The worldwide level for annual employment-based preference immigrants is at least 140,000. Section 202 prescribes that the per-country limit for preference immigrants is set at 7% of the total annual family-sponsored and employment-based preference limits, i.e., 25,620. The dependent area limit is set at 2%, or 7,320.

A minimum of 226,000 people can get green cards sponsored by family members each year. That number is further subdivided among the four preference categories.

Only 140,000 employment based green cards are allowed each year. Each country in the world is allowed 7% of that number.

Right. That means there are way more applications then what is suppose to be given out each year right?

I am surprised that the quota number have not changed since then.

I wonder if the quota number will go higher.

I remember one of the suggested fixes for the quota system was to distribute the visas to other countries that had more applications. Since other countries do not really use up all the quota they had.

The problem with that suggestion was that the total number would still be the same. This would mean for countries like Mexico and the Phillipines it would make them a little better, but then it would screw the other countries.

If CIR and/or DA passes then do you think the PD will move faster?
