I didn't register for an ID because I figured my EAD will serve as my ID while my license gets mailed to me. Plus, I'm too cheap to shell out another $21.

I haven't driven much but I suggest you always keep a look out everywhere around you, check your surroundings and be vigilante for any possible hazards. Don't keep your vision to the car right in front of you. Try to look ahead, if you see cars stopping, you will know when to stop instead of just looking at the car in front of you and trying to stop right after it stops.
Practice, take notice of how much you are turning the steering wheel when making a turn. Always brake before entering a turn, not during the turn.
