It certainly is, this bill has no realistic shot at all. It kind of irks me that half of the forum is going gaga for it too just no wwhen everything seems so possible. Plus Dems aren't going to go for a military only option. Hell, some dreamer organizations aren't going to go for it. This is one of the 99 percent of bills that won't proceed anywhere. Mark my words.

This would be perfect for me. I want to join the Marines as soon as I get my Diploma. And I planned to do 5 years if I ever got in anyway. I'm sure the last 3 would be reserves. Thanks for the post.

I don't feel like this is aimed towards discrimination of those undocumented individuals that do not want to join the military. I think it is a separate proposal for those few that are willing and more specifically able, as it was expressed not many youth are, to join the military. I think it has a better chance of passing than all of the other proposals because of the DACA approvals. I get that some people always look for the quickest handout, for lack of a better word, and abandon a more comprehensive ship. That irks me too. Remember Rubio... But I personally think this is good for the military and good for those who really want to join the military, such as myself. Although I wouldn't support this if it got in the way of CIR or the actual DREAM act.

Well...aside from being too old for DACA, with my carpal tunnel and acid reflux (27 years of stress is a bitch) I don't think I could survive boot camp.

Everyone that enlists has to do 8 years. People that do "2" or "4" year contracts do "2" and "4" active duty and the remaining reserves. Its not like its any different than enlisting if you were already a citizen.
Does anyone know when we can expect this to be up for voting?

(D) Luis Gutierrez is now co-sponsoring H.R. 435

I'm not sure the link will work because I received it in an email but it can still be looked up on govtrack.us
