Hello,

I have a question regarding a pre-employment background check.

I put two cash jobs on my resume and of course those two jobs won't appear on my background check... Should I tell the employer honestly that I worked under the table? I am interviewing for an entry-level position anyway and the two jobs aren't relevant.

Any opinion on this? Also, any other tips on pre-employment background check? it seems like LexisNexus thing is not good for us to use.

Thank you in advance.

When employers perform a background check, they check for criminal records. I'm pretty sure that previous jobs don't show up on a background check.

I was wondering the same thing myself because I've also had previous jobs that will not show up, so I'm not sure what we are supposed to say. They might think we're lying about the previous jobs...

This.

But then again......isn't that what our references are for? I've been stressing out wayyy too hard about this. Like should I just say I have ZERO experience despite that not being true?

Also, why do most jobs require at least a year of experience when it's entry-level... makes absolutely no sense to me.

I have no idea, it's like a catch-22, you need experience to gain experience. I've been applying to entry level positions but they say that you need at least 1-2 years of experience in the field. it really frustrates me. And about the background check i was applying to comerica for a financial analyst program, but it says to make sure your previous job dates are accurate, if they don't match they will not be able to continue. so i don't know what to do anymore.

Yeah, I've been applying everywhere and posting previous job experience only to realize yesterday that it was a huge mistake on my part because if I do happen to get a call back and they do a background check nothing will come up. My boyfriend said it might screw us over in the long run because if we worked and none of our tax records show up then they'll know something's up.

Do you have past job experience as well then? I've seen a lot of people that have worked under the table but that's not the case with me..

I guess like others have said, if one company doesn't work out another one will.

i was worried about the same thing. the company doing the background check called the employers i had put down and verified that i worked for them. it shouldn't be a problem.

That's awesome! I've been thinking and I suppose it's irrational for us to freak out over some 3rd party doing a credit check. Taxes or no taxes, fake social or real social or whatever you may have done.. they have no influence over anything really. Unless you've committed a crime I think we're home free. Tax-wise, that's for us to take up with the IRS and not some random company doing a background check.

What jobs were you doing exactly? Maybe you can get away with saying they paid you in cash because there's certain circumstances where that's okay I think? like being a waitress or a babysitter.
