Quote:
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said Tuesday that Senate negotiators are pushing to release their bipartisan immigration reform deal by the end of the week.

McCain said there is no need to wait several more weeks, as Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) suggested during a private conference call Monday organized by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

“No, no, absolutely not,” McCain told reporters at the Capitol.

Rubio appears to be at odds with the rest of the Senate’s Gang of Eight on when they will wrap up the months-long negotiations. He said during the call Monday that he planned to read “every” page of the overhaul plan, meaning it may be a “few” weeks until the legislation is unveiled, according to a source familiar with call.

But McCain, along with Sens. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), said they are optimistic about reaching deal this week.

“I can’t tell you when. I can tell you we are getting close,” Graham said Tuesday. “If everything holds the way it is today, it will be soon.”

Schumer added: “We’re working hard towards [finalizing a deal this week], that’s our goal. I believe we’re on track.”

The group has already missed several self-imposed deadlines. The White House has been patient with the group as long as the senators are making progress, but President Barack Obama has signaled that he won’t allow the process to drag out for months.

McCain said the senators “need to get moving.”

“There is a time for everything. You either get it done or you don’t,” McCain said. “Now is the time to get it done as quickly as possible.”

It's damn good to see McCain come to his senses again. I've missed the true him. I hope he finally realized that his loss wasn't a rejection of him but of his Party (a party that he isn't shy about blasting and opposing either).

BRIGHT signs. I was falling asleep at work. Now after reading the bold lines above, I'm wide awake. But like someone already mentioned, amongst this group of the GANG OF 8, there seems to be one odd individual. I think we all know who he is. I really hope the rest of the Senators don't get swayed by him. I don't think he is genuine about this deal. His track record is horrible when it comes to immigration and his rhetoric is truly a cause of concern. Leahy must grab the bull by the horn as soon as they introduce this bill.

McCain is the man, Rubio is a joke.. He's doing a damn good job at losing the Hispanic support from what I see..
