This is not the concern. We are concern about 2001 repeating once again. In 2001, CIR and Dream Act was close to getting pass, but because of the 911 attack, the bill was rejected because all the focus was on 911 and it also raised issue on security problems in the CIR bill.

I hope that's not the same case for us this time around

Yeah, yeah, yeah....and there was a bomb at the JFK library too, right?

Nobody, other than the people directly dealing with the situation, knows anything yet and the people who are working on it and are in the know have their hands full.

At this point, the best thing you get is a bad game of telephone, with the Chief of BPD himself reporting incorrect information when first speaking to the media. There is a lot of bad information out there at this point and a lot of idiots reporting their neighbors for "suspicious activities".

There is a reason why the President's address to the nation is not happening for another 10 minutes and trust me these are not spent on make up.

This being said, given the limited information, if I had to make a guess now I would say that it was a bomb - but at the same time this does not appear to be a well-planned attack organized by a foreign terrorist cell with anti-American or religiously fanatical ideology.

In any case, what has happened is absolutely horrible.

This incident can affect CIR in a multitude of ways...most of them negative.

1.If the perpetrator was foreign, it will certainly inspire xenophobic mentality.

2.If the perpetrator was foreign AND obtained a DL from Washington or New Mexico - states that still grant licenses to all individuals regardless of status - this will be far worse for CIR and the immigrant community. The media might go as far as point to this forum and threads that explain how to obtain DL in the aforementioned states when undocumented.

3.If it has been carried out by a sleeper cell with ties to a foreign terrorist organization, it will again inspire the "no one is safe" mentality among the public and lead to hysteria for at least the next few weeks. There will be debates, hearing, and what not trying to ascertain how this could have happened and what could be done to prevent another similar incident in the future - in other words, there will be a lot of discussion on the topic of Homeland Security and the conservative media will misrepresent and ultimately destroy CIR in the eyes of the citizens who are still on the fence about immigration reform, or simply do not care or consider themselves outside the scope of this particular issue.
