As for the remark about having included this in the NDAA initially, they tried but the committee was against it. IMO a watered down Dream Act shouldn't be what we opt for.

P.S. Fun fact, we haven't declared war since WW2. There was no 'war' in Iraq or Afghanistan. It was all kinetic actions, temporary hostilities, or some other newspeak.

Courtesy of George Bush. You serve after 9/11 you're eligible to naturalize instantly. In fact you can do so after completing basic training, USCIS started doing that in 2009. Note that this citizenship is contingent on good military service, if you don't receive an honorable discharge they'll take it away.

Yeah in theory you can naturalize near-instantly.

In practice it is done after a year of service minimum.
