HA! Going on record to say that I said it first on this forum: Vargas got arrested so that he could have an open file with DHS. Expanded deferred action will be on a first-come, first-serve basis (for those eligible), and it'll most likely start with those already in the system.

My appointment is next Monday, 8/25. I was asked to bring a DACA application, even though the only reason I could not qualify was the age cap. And if the eligibility is updated so that age won't be the main qualifier, the background info required by DACA can be used to register all the appropriate facts. Fingers-crossed that will be the case.

Here is the link to the article:

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/20/us...=tw-share&_r=1

Quote:
Eleven people living in the United States illegally, including a high-profile activist, plan to apply for deportation deferrals on Wednesday as part of an effort to pressure President Obama to include many millions of immigrants in any executive action to reduce deportations.

The coordinated effort was organized by Jose Antonio Vargas, a Filipino who is a well-known leader of the immigrant rights movement, after he was briefly detained in South Texas in July.

Mr. Vargas and other advocates want the White House to halt deportations for most of the estimated 11 million immigrants here illegally by vastly expanding a 2012 program of deferrals for young people who came when they were children.

“We are asking the administration, How inclusive are you going to be?” Mr. Vargas said. “Should any of these cases be left behind? I think they should not.”

Mr. Vargas will ask Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson to grant him a four-year deferral, while the other immigrants, selected to represent a range of foreigners without legal status, will each do the same. They include a German businesswoman in Los Angeles who has been living in the United States since 1986, a 34-year-old South Korean man in Brooklyn who came when he was a toddler, and a Mexican woman in rural Alabama who is caring for three young grandchildren after their parents were deported.

With the applications will be a legal memorandum arguing that the president has “broad legal authority to provide temporary status” to those immigrants and by extension to millions of others like them.

After Republican leaders in the House of Representatives said they would not take up an immigration overhaul this year, Mr. Obama said last month that he would use executive authority to expand deportation protections and make other fixes to the ailing immigration system. While White House officials and Mr. Johnson have been working to stem a surge of illegal border crossings in Texas, they have also been considering what changes the president can make on his own and how many illegal immigrants to include.

Coordinated = pre-planned.

So, *after* he gets HIS deferral, he and the others are the example to be followed without guarantee that the *others* will get theirs. This is helping whom exactly?

Yeah that was uncalled for. There are about half a million DACA recipients with a few hundred on this website alone, most of whom have been in the US for far less time than Vargas (and myself). All of a sudden, this man requests the same thing that the those half a million pure angels who have not done anything already have and it's "fuck you!". And not just any man, the same many who has been the face of this movement and is partially responsible for it.

ok, so give him 2 years like the rest of us. after all he is an aged out dreamer. I don't feel that its right for him to get 4 years tbh. That's if he gets it at all.

We have to pay 465 every 2 years. Why should he get a better deal than all of us?

And there's nothing wrong with me.

Just because hes got Media pull he can go and ask for bs like that, is that fair? I don't think so.

Some dreamers "promised" to use DACA to fight for others noting that it will be easier to fight legally than illegally.

The sentiment nowadays seemed to have changed, it's either DACA or get thrown under the bus.

This guy and some others are arguably the reason why we have this program anyways. I wouldn't mind the gov't giving them a green card at all.

Hes a celebrity, he likes it that way. Hes a stunt coordinator. Its nice that hes out there fighting and all but honestly no body asked him to. Its like those guys in the army who feel entitled and feel all mighty. Yeah they went to the army and fought for this country but it was their choice, they weren't drafted. I don't even feel that hes that way either though, i'm just saying that it wouldn't be fair for them to get 4 years while we're stuck with 2. Just like all those DUI peeps who get work permits. NICE ONE.

"hey mr obama, give us daca."
"ok but you can't be included"
"I AM OK WITH THIS"

come on man.
