Yeah I agree, this pick for DHS is good for us.

I am just looking at the way Trump how he likes to try to balance controversial positions. Trump likes to create tension and ambiguity when necessary. Gen. John Kelly could also be seen as balancing Jeff Sessions so that is a possibility, and that Kris Kobach would create un-balance so he would be out.

Trump wants to be seen as tough on immigration while at the same time seen as compassionate and not racist. It is tension. For example, near the end of the election when he had the problem of being seen as racist against blacks, He held a press conference saying that Obama was born in the US and went to a black church. That was a message for white America, not black America.

Trump has a pattern of starting out with an extreme position and then "moderating" it. I think Trump will go hard on illegal immigration to please his base, but then "moderate" his position and try for a good deal for DACA / dreamers / kids in order to appeal to middle America.

So, and this is a bit off topic, I think Trump will support Dreamers being given protection in LAW, not an executive order, at the same time stepping up non Dreamer deportation and enforcement.

Sorry for the long posts, I am a grad student ( part time ) and I tend to write a lot.

The Deputy Secretary does need to be confirmed ( advice and consent ) of the Senate.

Is this the best solution for Dreamers?

Is Kelly good, or at least neutral, for us? I'm not too familiar with him.

Me neither, to be honest. But anything sounds better than Kobach or any other alt or racist at this point.

At least most of us will probably sleep better for a bit longer ...... (and meanwhile, I'll try to calmly focus in finding a job a billion times better than my current part time).
