like ianus said if we want this to pass, we should do the ground work and call up some members of congress. what good is it going to do to just hope it passes? that's what the older dreamers used to do, and its how we got daca in the first place. we can start off by making a list or even just contacting your representatives.

hastert rule was used by SPR because they just didnt trust obama to enforce CIR and they just didnt want him to get credit for immigration.

with trump we have the best way forward. i would take him over mike pence anyday, what you saw during the campaign was just for the reason of campaigning.. all the shit he said wasnt true. he was just using that to rack up the votes he needed.

Trump is a showman, he has a totally different persona in public and in private negotiations. i believe he is more of a pragmatist and can be reasonable behind closed doors.

So if the congressman is right in his estimates that 60 republicans will support it, the bill should pass easily since speaker Ryan is all for it and he will not go by hastert rule.

yes because Republicans believe they have a President Trump in the executive branch that would enforce the immigration laws, build the wall etc. Border Security/Wall Bill then attached is the DREAM ACT (LPR or Citizenship) whatever it is.

And i believe 60 republicans plus 197 democrats would suffice. cause as you said there is no point in him bringing up our issue up if hes not gonna put it up for a vote.

and yeah there will be repubs like Steve King and Ted Cruz who would vote against it but it is what it is.

There are a lot of rules to the house. The immigration committee is lead by a pretty anti immigration guy from Wisc 5th district ( Where I went to high school ) A bill would have to get past him and then to Speaker Ryan. The speaker can disregard the Hasert rule when they want to. Usually a couple of times a year, but usually something that will not get them kicked out of the speakership.

All of it is politics. The house could sign a discharge petition to skip the committee and go directly to a floor vote, even with out the committee or speaker Ryan agreeing. They won't because they are all afraid of getting primaried (sp?) back in their home district.

I do not think they will try that hard to pass the bill, because no one is going to target DREAMers for deportation and everybody thinks that way. It may still get passed, but there is going to have to be something attached that the Republicans cannot get past the filibuster in the Senate without.

Since the Republicans have three branches of the govt, they can do a lot with a simple majority. Build the wall, increase the number of border patrol agents, deny almost all asylum cases.

The Republicans are going to want something they cannot get, and whatever it is, it won't be directed against DREAMers , but some other immigrant group will.

I have been thinking this as well, dreamers thanks to all the attention we have gotten are least group of people to be deported if that ever happen. But republicans aren't about to "reward" a group of people with out making an example out of another group. Will trump really deport the 3 million criminal he says he in? He already backed down from putting Hillary in jail. It won't be an easy thing but I can see slowly making life here much difficult for us

Your are bit thick.
Yes, elections have consequences.

But in no possible world is having a Republican administration the better outcome.

Before a Republican administration, DACA was the baseline; any legislation was anticipated to help the wider population of undocumented immigrants (i.e. your family who did not qualify).

Post Trump, the horizon has receded; it is at best DACA via legislation, at worst nothing with continued or accelerated deportation, along with an Attorney General and DHS Head who are even less sympathetic.

Basically, what is being offered is: be grateful we won't be deporting you - but your parent and older siblings who aged out - their fucked.

This offering of DACA in legislation - after committees, amendments, and reconciliation etc - assuming it even survives that far - is very likely to be a less generous edition. That is it.

Eva02 is essentially correct on both point, no need for revisionist history, the House votes for the 2013 CIR were there, among the Repub caucus, as they are now, except Boehner would not allow it a simple up-or-down vote for partisan reasons. Passing Bridge Act now would just be a political layup - to take credit for 'doing something'.

Again, elections have consequences, and political realities being what they are, by all means call Republican congressional members in support of Bridge Act. Try to persuade Trump to stick with his nebulous promises. Take part in activism.

But drop the silly and inane illusion that a republican administration, in terms of DACA or immigration as a whole, is to our advantage - despite the counterfactual staring you in the face.

All we are going to get is DACA (maybe; was assured under Dems) and uncertainty. Nothing else is any longer in the cards.

I agree with all of you; however, I believe our chances are better now thanks to obama. If Obama had not implemented DAC,A, Republicans would have no incentive to pass a BRIDGE Act. They would have no incentive to pass anything and would have probably just moved to the right on immigration with trump. I also don't believe Ryan is in any danger of losing his speakership since he has been touting support for DACA recipients since before he was even voted back in. This is all about them avoiding negative PR and losing even more ground amongst Latino voters and possibly millenials. We are a sympathetic group of immigrants so the smart thing for them to do is preserve the status quo and carry on with their plans of "securing the border" and deporting criminals.

Jesus Christ this was a total destruction

But yes I agree. Now more than ever we need to contact our reps. There's at least 800k of us that can call our reps to pressure trump into keeping daca. Now is the time to do so. We are the main group in focus and anything done to "help" us will have reparation for the rest of our folks.
