There's one thing that I never understood about nationalism. Maybe you guys can help me out. I never understood national pride. Because pride is reserved for something you did, not something you happen to be. Like I can't be proud to be 5'9" or Scottish or have a weird shoe size. Through that definition, I can't be proud to be Scottish; however, I'm happy to be one. From that I could never understand Mexican pride. Seems like a weird concept.

Speaking of Mexicans, sound like some of you are ready to self-deport. Would you guys actually self-deport and start a life in Mexico even after Trump actually manages to hand out green cards to each and every single one of you?

Nationalism is completely different. the OP said he "hated being Mexican"
I say embrace it.
Lets say you hate being 5'9 and every day you wear platform shoes to appear taller, and when you dont you feel inferior and self conscious. And because of of this you hate being 5'9. At this point you can lie to your self and fake being taller or embrace the fact that you are 5'9 and not treat it like its a decease.

lol at this analogy but i hope it makes some scene.

I understand, and I agree with you there. What you're describing there is insecurity. He should not feel any shame or pride for whatever the Mexicans do on their side. Whatever they do, it did not involve him. Pride can be a dangerous thing. You can only be happy for them when they do things right, as well as critical about what they do wrong. I am willing to bet that they don't all feel the same way about whatever issues they have, much like it is here.

Ridding himself of such insecurity is a necessary step he has to take. It's a silly thing to be insecure about.

Because thats YOUR identity. You didnt get to pick it, but thats YOUR nation. To be ashamed of being mexican wont get your immigration application through faster.

If they sound like they are ready to self deport, then they are foolish. Wasting all the effort to be here just to give up? I think that they are actually preparing and making sure they have all the information.

Wouldn't you want to know about scotland before you got sent back?
