Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said Sunday lawmakers are moving forward under the impression they can work with the White House on a solution for young immigrants protected by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

During an interview on "Fox News Sunday," Durbin was asked whether there is a deal to protect DACA recipients without funding for the border wall and whether there is a deal to give a path to citizenship to young immigrants who were brought to the U.S. by their parents.

"Well, there's a basic understanding," Durbin said.

Durbin said President Trump, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) came to a basic understanding without ironing out the details when they met at the White House last week.
"We're going forward with the understanding that we can work with the White House to come up with an agreement that includes DACA, that includes citizenship for those who are protected under the DREAM Act and also has a substantial commitment to increase border protection," he said.
Durbin said those are the two main pillars of the understanding.

When pressed on whether he thinks Trump committed to those pillars during the meeting with Democratic leaders, Durbin responded: "Yes."

Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) was also asked on the same show whether he thinks there's a deal on DACA and a path to citizenship.

"I think there's a desire to come to a conclusion here on both sides," he said, adding that the details "matter."

Trump said last week he is not considering offering citizenship to young immigrants living illegally in the U.S., saying, "We're not looking at amnesty."

His comments came after reports he struck a deal with Democrats to address immigrants benefiting from the DACA program, which he terminated last week.

Maybe a bit optimistic but I think a deal will be reached with citizenship and border security. Trump is playing his base with his new terms. Keeping them at bay for now. Eventually he will fold and do a 180 again.

The WH is supposed to come out with its priorities in a DACA deal. I hope they are not so extreme, but I feel like he won't be supporting citizenship for us. Or maybe they don't come out with anything and let congress hammer out the details... Dream act and border security is the only thing that can pass...

Anything that passes congress is going to have a path to citizenship for us . Like I've said before, he is going to sign anything that eventually gets to his desk .

Karl Rove on President Trump's deal with democrats

(Rove) I got to tell you, this was a deal that the democrats wanted because it gives them more leverage over both the budget and over the debt ceiling . Count on it, they're going to be coming at the end of the year with a huge immigration bill it's not going to be just DACA, it's going to be a whole bunch of other things and on spending at the end of the year when we come back to another continuing resolution they're going to say well you know what, we want to plus up some things we don't want you to have that more defense spending and we want more social spending and will give you another deal like we just gave you. So let's not get ourselves, yesterday could be the beginning of something good but it's going to require the president to be focused and look, no more surprises, the worst thing the president could do is surprise your allies. It's one thing to say look we're going to do something, I want to do something that you don't like and we did that we would say to the republicans we want to do something you don't like we want to get the issue of campaign finance reform off the books we don't like the bill but we got to get it done don't but we're not going to surprise you yesterday they got surprised and there are lots of people running around today in the halls of congress and god dang it why were we surprised.

I've been reading up on the tax reform negotiations and let me tell you....
The freedom caucus may be a blessing in disguise for us... they are pissed. They are the extremist type that would rather side with the Dems if "tax reform" or tax cuts to the rich, don't go their way.

If Obamacare repeal 3.0 and tax reform fails. Expect a full on intraparty war right before December budget deadline.
Ryan and Mcconell will be begging and letting the Dems add whatever they want to the budget deal.

Bless Sen. Durbin's heart.

They are going to have to attach DreamAct to must-pass bills in the Senate just as he and Schumer stated. DreamAct has a lot of momentum and we have a solution to fix this once and for all.

I don't know why they are saying to wait till December. Congress has an attention span smaller than a toddler. Who knows what will be a "priority" in December.

the new Trumpcare bill has to be defeated; if the defeats keep piling up, the easier it might be to make the Dream Act the 'win' Trump needs.

Or he may take the stricter route to appease his base.
