Now it's a fight between republicans and democrats on who will legalize us first.

This can pass if all republicans band together, would a democrat fillibuster? And how many Dems would sign on in event of a fillibuster. Shit might get real

What about negotiations..? What if republicans are willing to compromise and say make it just 5 years of conditional?

If this is the best change we got, then heavy negotiations should happen.

Hey guys. Do a GOOGLE search for "Dream Act"

One of the top headlines is from DREAM Act Portal. Looks like our site will be at the top when people search for Dream act!

Negotiations are needed for sure, I mean are they going to amend the INA to single out Dreamer applicants? Current law allows 1 day of active duty/reserve service to be eligible for citizenship, that's a not a minor issue to mess with since it applies to regular GC folks also.

Also I assume this bill would forgive the unlawful presence, some of us already have approved family petitions that can grant us full GC immediately. Lot of loose ends on this still.

I think the bill is drafted in such a way that when democrats come asking for compromise on this, republicans will have leverage with the border security portion. They can be like "yeah if we decrease the number of years, we're gonna need X more dollars for man power." Anyone with even a clue for negotiations knows two things: one, your first offer isn't what you want/willing to give and two, don't show all your cards up front. I'm assuming some people here when they get hired or promoted take the first offer they get?

No, some of us are older and know the pain on going through college while knowing once we graduate we cannot get jobs. We know the pain of driving without license. We know the fear that follows.

This is a dream come true so we do not want to a greedy!

i haven't read any of this, but what!

I only meant that comment in the sense that both Republicans and Democrats are going to have to make a deal. I think both parties, like in most negotiations, are holding back from what they'd be willingly to accept. I think while this is definitely the right foot forward, we shouldn't jump to completely accepting it (officially) until we know what the border security provisions are. We don't want it to seem like we're getting away with something because it could mean harsher provisions for even our bill let alone the border security part.

Trust me, I empathize with you on everything you've touched on. In no way am I saying this is a terrible bill, it's a good start. We shouldn't sell ourselves short so early is all. Let's see how this plays out in this weeks news cycle and possibly some committee hearings.
