if you are referring to those southwestern states that were claimed in victory in an illegal war. well those native tribes didn't even associate with "mexicans". the only people there were that did classify as mexicans or nuevo espanol were the same spaniard conquistadors like the nuevo mexicanos, californios, tejanos, etc. who settled in the states and remained there after america annexed them.

plus, most mexicans who come to the us come from central states like michocan, oaxaca who are not related to the native americans who have been persecuted by the US imperialist empires like the tribes like the Cherokees, Navajo, etc. that were. maybe mexicans from northern sonora, chihuahua, can say that they were but they barely come to the usa. remember, mexico is a diverse country with different backgrounds. a person of yucutan is more closely related to the guatamalan mayas more than the opata people of sonora
