DACA?

Collins: I am very sympathetic on the DACA issue and think it should be done before the end of the year.

I talked to a student from the University of Southern Maine who did not know he was undocumented until he went to apply for his driver’s license and his family broke the news to him. He’s as American as anyone else. From Maine, worked summer jobs cleaning houses, he is a good resident of this country.

It is imperative that we act. I don’t like the idea that these young people are living in a state of panic. I talked with Jeff Flake about that yesterday. There are a lot of us — Lindsey Graham, Dick Durbin.

Would that have to be on the omnibus [to get your vote]?

Collins: I don’t know it would have to be on the omnibus. I don’t want to shut down government. But I am pushing very hard, as are many people on both sides of the aisle, to get a solution to that issue.

The votes are definitely there, especially if it's Dream Act or the budget bill gets a filibuster.

She had the chance to do what was right back in 2010.

We need to let 2010 go. Circumstances are different, DACA fueled the resurrection of DA. They have to deal with the hand they were dealt. Let’s drop this 2010 nonsense.

Gonna have to agree. It’s in the past and while we’re angry about it, we have to see the positive and how much more support and attention we have this time around that wouldn’t be there if it wasn’t for DACA.

Also would we rather she be against it now? I'll take any and all support.

There's no appeasing some people.

She initially voted yes, but when it's apparent that Dream Act will fail, she switched her vote to no. So if we had 59 votes, she would have voted yes. I can see that she was willing to do the right thing if she was the deciding vote.
