What is so great about January? I mean, what could possibly happen within a few weeks after December that would significantly increase our chances of getting something?

I just don't see it. Anyone who's read this article would feel the same way about our chances come January.

I remain hopeful that the democrats will pull off a miracle next week, Jeff Flake’s bill sounds like the most pausible to me. Hopefully I’m not a little too delusional and everything works out. I genuinely don’t see us going very far after January.

He explains why he believes Jan is a better negotiation:

Quote:
A continuing resolution vote in January, said the New Jersey senator, could provide Democrats with a better negotiating position, since it would mean Republicans had exhausted their options to pass a spending bill with only a simple majority.

Come on fellow DAP friends, wake up! Stop the wishful thinking about GC b4 Christmas. We ain't got this. The Democrats surely ain't got this.

Have you felt the general pattern of articles coming out recently? All of them talk about our issue going into OT thru January. And when January happens, Trump will make up some BS about how we are the demons of this world and that there should be some reform...but on his watch. What the Republicans are doing is just stalling on the issue so they can have it pushed out to January when they have the upper hand.

I feel sorry for the guys expiring early next year. They'll be the first ones to feel the pain.

Right now, they have it extended to December 22nd. The rumor is that they will try to have it extended yet again...

Also one question to the more knowledgeable on the issue.

Didn't Flake vote Yea on the Tax bill already? What guarantee does he have that the senate will put his bill to a vote if he already voted Yea? or does he somehow get to withdraw the vote would his compromised objective not be met?

Thanks in advance

This is not a popular opinion here, but I'll take the Bridge Act now even with the travel restriction. There's too much uncertainty next year.

To your question, Democrats will have similar leverage now or anytime before January 19 if the current Continuing Resolution passes, a little more info here.

Senator Flake and Senator Durbin have been working on a stand alone DREAM Act, and it may (don't know how) hit the floor next week and hopefully would pass with a veto proof majority. At this point, it's all up in the air, and no one knows what is going on or even what is likely going on.
