We invite you to join us in protecting health, nutrition, education, and economic opportunity by urging Congress to pass the Dream Act this year, as part of a coordinated Protecting Immigrant Families Campaign Dream Day of Action this Monday, December 18. We thank the American Federation of Teachers, Community Catalyst, the Food Action and Resource Center, and the National Education Association for leading the day of action. We hope you will participate!

Since 2012, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, has granted eligible youth relief from deportation, as well as work authorization, enabling them to better care for themselves and their families as well as give back to their communities. But since September 5, when the Trump administration announced that it was ending DACA, already more than 11,000 “Dreamers” have lost these protections, and every day that passes 122 more lose their DACA. The bipartisan Dream Act would protect DACA recipients’ ability to live and work without fear of deportation and provide them and millions of young immigrants with a path to U.S. citizenship. But congressional leaders have yet to schedule a vote on this urgent legislation.

That’s why we are mobilizing the campaign and its extended network of partners and concerned individuals to demand that Congress pass the Dream Act before the end of this year. Our efforts will have more impact if you participate. There are four simple things you can do to help:

Sign our digital petition.
Customize our sample social media posts and share them on your social channels throughout December.
Participate in a Twitter “tweetchat” on December 18 at 1:30 pm ET, using the #DreamActNow hashtag, and encourage your networks to join too.
Send an email like this one to your partners / members / affiliates, encouraging them to participate in the day of action
Please feel free to contact us or our consultant, Ed Walz at Springboard Partners ([email protected]), if you have any questions.

Further Delay Isn’t an Option!
Further delay will drive Dreamers and their families — which include hundreds of thousands of U.S. citizen children — back into the shadows, where they would face:

Dangerous health consequences from unmet health care needs and the stress of a constant threat of deportation.
Poverty and hunger, as the loss of work authorization denies families critical income and, for the many Dreamers who are parents of U.S. citizens, forces a choice between avoiding deportation and meeting their children’s nutritional and other basic needs.
Lost educational opportunity, as the loss of work authorization and (for some) in-state tuition push education out of reach.
The harm of delay would extend beyond Dreamers and their families, as the loss of DACA negates the contributions of:
Dreamers who have earned or are pursuing health care careers, amplifying a provider shortage that affects the health of citizens and immigrants alike.
Dreamers who have earned teaching credentials, building brighter futures in classrooms nationwide.
Dreamers who are giving back to disadvantaged communities, by working in youth-serving and human services organizations all over the country.
We will not stand silently by as an attack on Dreamers compromises the health, education, and economic security of millions of our neighbors. We will speak out on December 18 to demand action, and we hope you will join us.

Thank you!
