Nielsen unbelievable does not understand how DACAs are renewed on a rolling basis. Does not seem to know the reasons as to why someone could not renew or did not renew because of timeline/cost constraints

OMG. DHS Sec Nielsen acknowledges that there were 22K who missed the renewal deadline for DACA, but maintains she is not aware that people (15K, per Hirono) have lost their status as a result.

Either Nielsen doesn't understand the time frame, and thinks those 22K are people due to lose DACA after 3/5, or she thinks that people who failed to submit apps to meet a(n announced-30-days-in-advance, not-communicated-to-recipients) deadline don't count as losing DACA.

Durbin/Graham clearly feel they could have won Trump over without Stephen Miller et al intervening. But reported substance of deal likely would face pushback from House GOP too, especially temporary protections for DACA parents. Usually that's seen as part of comprehensive talks
