Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., has long led the push to provide a permanent legal status to the so-called "DREAMers" — young adults in the United States illegally who were brought to the country as children.

Durbin was in the mix on multiple bipartisan deals in recent months, as the clock ticked toward a March 5 expiration of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which President Trump decided in September 2017 to end.

But with Congress still gridlocked on DACA and the Supreme Court refusing to intervene in two federal cases negating that deadline, the Senate's No. 2 Democrat seems to be throwing in the towel.

"This election, the election of new members to the House and Senate, will decide the fate of this issue," Durbin told NPR's All Things Considered on Wednesday.

Next time , it’s going to be the 2020 presidential elections.

What utter cynical bullshit. He did not even offer HIS bill for a vote. In fact, he did not even really push for it. Daca is expected to lose in court. Why should he be re-elected?

Watch out for the budget increases for DHS enforcement, more detention beds. Watch him NOT stand up for the undocumented community.

Resign! Sen. Durbin Resign! Resign right now! You have been toying with us since 2001. You are a failure! How come you were not able to whip the votes back in 2010, when we had a 59-41 majority? We had 2 republicans that voted yes for the dream act, but you could not get 58 democrats to vote yes for it! 5 democratic senators voted No (Sen. Tester who is still in the Senate is one of them) and one did not even vote (Sen. Manchin who is also still in the Senate). Stop using us for your reelection! Go away!

I guess even some of us who consider themselves Liberals learned this, which is a good sign that Dreamers are not as partisan as they think we are.

Fuck the Dems, Fuck Trump, Fuck the GOP.

Give us our shit and leave us alone.

Yeah even if he pushed it probably would of gotten worst support compared to the Grassley bill. With DACA being temporarily reinstated some of you guys will be OK till election and see what happens . Us other DREAMers just have to survive till election. Nothing will get done with this congress.
