But for tax purposes, we are "resident aliens" and thus can take tax credits.

Another thing that will be tirelessly challenged in court. We pay taxes to get services too. Stephen Miller trying to keep his job since he failed with The Wall.

Anyone have insight on why this wouldn't have to go through congress?

Wouldn't this make another term of focus on tax reform, which they already had.

Now now, let's not say anything negative about the esteemed president. He's got many fans on here.

Wouldn’t this have to go through Congress? Either way I’m sure they’ll be legal challenges to stop this from going through.

I don't think so. The executive gets huge leeway on immigration and DHS makes this call. We can still use deductions of course, but now can get screwed for it.

Up to the courts to decide whether it's legal to show bias in this manner.

This is just inviting people to lie during their immigration interview and/or work under the table to avoid paying taxes.

Why didn’t Obama do it then? It would have been great if he could have given citizenship to even a few of us.

Why didn't Obama do what? Since when does leeway mean the president can give citizenship to people? What are you talking about?
