Trump: Wants congress to fund the wall, says it'll be steel instead of concrete, brings up stories of illegal immigrants killing americans, etc.

Schumer / Pelosi: there's no reason to hold everyone hostage while they debate on border security funding. Open government now and debate border security after government is open.

Nothing new.

My analysis is that dems strategy is to open the government. Then eventually negotiate DACA when government is opened. That way they can't be blamed for the shutdown.

Everyone knows daca is the solution to the shutdown. It's like reps and dems are playing who can last longer without bringing it up.

President still has to sign off on reopening the government.

What I don't understand is why don't Dems want to deal with Border Security RIGHT NOW? Why separate it and kick it down the road? Chucky clearly said "Separate the shutdown and deal with Border Security separately." Makes no sense. They can't continue kicking it down the road like they usually do. I don't think Trump will let them do that.

There is a deal to be had. BOTH parties want Border Security. It just seems to me this is about politics and preventing the other side to get a win. The guy clearly said its not going to be a concrete/brick wall. And he mentioned there will be a lot of border technolgoy and investment in border security. Dems support all of this! THey are just against it because they don't want Trump to have a win.

Congress has the power to override a veto from the president.

As soon as they put daca or anything similar up, they get blamed for keeping government hostage over illegals.

That's what this speech was mostly for - the skittish GOP. Trump can't afford for the GOP to side with Democrats and override his veto.

One reason is that if the dems bring up DACA, they'll get blamed for it like they did the last shutdown. Last time, they said "look, dems shutdown the government to help illegals instead of american kids" because they added CHIP funding to sweeten the pot. Dems took a hit last year from that so they do not want to repeat the same mistake again.

The saying goes: Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
