Firing up his base or not I don’t see how this looks good on his re-election campaign. You all talk about a republican uprising and how he is firing up his base but what about the Democrat base? I see the democratic base getting fired up as much or even more from sheer hate for Trump.

I can already imagine the political ads come next year stemming from this impeachment vote. They are gonna be so nasty! Specially when you consider how ironic this is, coming from the whole “crooked Hillary” smear campaign. This guy is a straight clown and hypocrite. He made Hillary’s emails look like a problem for national security and that made many REPUBLICAN Americans angry. At the same time he TRULY endanger our national security with proof Ukraine was setting up to interfere in our elections and now republicans are backtracking and making it out to not be a big deal, seriously? So I guess when it happens to the rival party it’s ok? But not when your parties president is doing it of course...

All four top democratic candidates will absolutely destroy this guy in a debate come next year. Hillary made him look stupid and I feel she is inferior to Biden, Bernie, Warren or Buttigieg. They will all make him look even stupider now that he has a track record as a dirty and low life politician. So personally I am not loosing any hope at all. And again, I believe there will not be a republican but democrat uprising come 2020. Just because I feel a lot of people are getting tired of this guy.

She stole an election from a viable candidate like bernie with superdelegates AKA cheating and stealing the democratic nomination and pissed off his supporters. Bernie supporters packed up their shit and stayed home.

The only time they got excited for the electoral process was when obama came out, oh lord where they excited. Finally, a black man will control the most powerful and richest nation in the world.
Not only was obama mostly successful despite MASSIVE republican opposition, OBAMA is part of the reason we can work and not have the deportation noose around our necks. Obama litterally lifted our asses, in one giant, herculean task, out of the shadows and into the workforce.

It's the electoral college. A majority of USA voters voted AGAINST him in 2016.

At this point I think Biden is the only guy that can beat him. Maybe he can pull some people who are on the fence and want some stability back.

The point of the electoral college is not to decide via who gets the most popular votes.
This is something the founders of the country thought about and decided against because they knew 70% of any country is just imbeciles.

Originally voting was for strait, white, landowning males.
Then strait, black or white but not yellow males.
Then everyone.

The point of having people own land was so they'd have some skin in the game.

The goal is to protect smaller states from larger states and ensure fair representation.

When people vote they actually don't vote for president, but they vote to decide how many of the states electoral votes they will give to a candidate. Unfortunately, the first past the post system means that a candidate can win with just 51% of the vote in a state and get ALL of the electoral votes.

First past the post voting systems are the most outdated, and apelike systems we still use today.
It's the equivalent of the flintstones car on a modern highway.


The point of the the electoral college from the federalist papers is not to ensure whoever gets the most states votes whatever wins. The electoral college tempers the public fires into a cool and collected decision machine.

Not only that but because the seat of electors is temporary it removes some of the potential corruption that may exist if it were a permanent seat.

It also prevents foreign influence in the case of having a president that is chosen directly by a foreign power.

Finally it gives the electoral college the opportunity to give the office of president to a man who deserves it.
The process of election affords a moral certainty, that the office of President will never fall to the lot of any man who is not in an eminent degree endowed with the requisite qualifications.

Unfortunately it has failed us with the election of Trump, the office of president falling to a man who does not deserve it. When good men fail to do their job catastrophe happens.

The choice of SEVERAL, to form an intermediate body of electors, will be much less apt to convulse the community with any extraordinary or violent movements, than the choice of ONE who was himself to be the final object of the public wishes. And as the electors, chosen in each State, are to assemble and vote in the State in which they are chosen, this detached and divided situation will expose them much less to heats and ferments, which might be communicated from them to the people, than if they were all to be convened at one time, in one place.
