They can make DACA more strict and call it a better DACA. The republican way is goodlatte / bridge act for 4 pillars. If they're not getting 4 pillars, the best they'll offer is goodlatte / bridge act.

The republican argument would be "you want poor people dragging our economy?", "DACA is supposed to be for young people, 25+ is not young", "you want criminals in this country?" etc.

They want you to have a PhD at the age of 20 making 200k+ a year and never even gotten a traffic ticket.

If they just cancel removal orders, you'll have to do the immigration process like everyone else. H1-B visas are very strict right now (don't know when they'll be back since they can just keep extending the H1-B visa ban) so your employer probably can't help you. I can't think of an obvious way the general DACA population will be able to legalize.

The only hope is that the Trump administration truly makes an exception to their general immigration policies when it comes to DACA.

Can he sign the EO already so we can stop speculating and start stressing out again?

Did any of you actually listen to the video before speculating? He says the following (among other things):

"It'll be strong on the border, but you'll come in legally... and you'll be able to come in legally."

To me, this definitely sounds like this order would have us leave the US, apply externally, and then come back in if we meet the merit based requirements. He mentioned "come in legally" twice.

All of this, plus how USCIS has been really iffy with new DACA and DACA renewal applications lately has me a little nervous.

A big F U to all the dreamers here that said we needed Trump for a DACA solution and either showed support or made excuses for him. You all are going to finally get a solution from your Orange King and it's gonna fuck us all up.

Agreed. Trump doesn't even know what he is talking about, he just pulls stuff out of his behind.

That's part of the problem. The people writing the immigration policy is his advisors and he's been very hands off. The Trump administration's immigration policy has been very consistent and it's been hard line. When have they taken a soft stance? I'm not talking about the stuff they say, I'm talking about the actions they take.

I should also add that a mass pardon like this is not going to sit well with the republicans because the next democratic president will pardon a lot more people. To the republicans a narrow bill, even the dream act passed by the house, is better than the mass pardon via EO. The dream act at most is like 2 million. There are way more people here without documentation than 2 million.

It makes no sense.

Probably. But most likely any action that harms DACA without an equal or better replacement will be challenged in court, or just challenged altogether regardless if it is better than DACA or not. That leads me to think nothing will happen this year.

Think about it, he believes SCOTUS gave him limitless powers when it comes to immigration policy which isn't the case at all!

Plus, he is is announcing something that has not happened yet. What kind of strategy is that? If his advisers are crafting something they are doing a terrible job.

The republican way has not been good in the past, hope it's different this time.

Your insights are incredible really. On this point, when it does come to Dreamers, I really feel like the core Trump base/supporters are increasingly actually becoming favorable. Even they are recognizing now that Dreamers actually deserve a place in this society since we have not known any other country. It might not sit well with actual Rep. politicians like Ted Cruz but I think when it comes to the base, he should be fine.
