it's been pretty obvious how obstructive parties have been to one another over the past 20 years, as politics have become more of a fashion statement than actually doing anything or working together to better the country.

though i do question why any of you are giving credence to pianos' irrelevant comment, if we can all agree that a blue wave wouldn't dramatically change the situation enough to have green cards arriving at your doorstep.

not to mention the fact that it would just push people and the core plans of eventually elected republicans further to the right.
you won't get any consideration from actually far-far-rightists if neo-liberals continue screwing with this country.
people like pianos aren't supporting bernie sanders, or tulsi, they're supporting clowns like joe biden.

Border Security/Border Wall for DREAM Act is a middle ground and a decent deal. Democrats get DREAM Act. Trump gets his wall. It's a win-win.
there is little to no proof that a "debate" does anything at all to sway senators to vote differently.
these people are overwhelmingly partisan, they were called out on it, both republicans and democrats, embarrassed publicly for their partisanship, and yet they don't change. it's theater, practically. i sincerely doubt that letting them just have time to "talk" would do much, they're not going to sway each other's opinions.

again, i have yet to be explained by anyone, how border security for a country is somehow a concession.
how is border security an inherently right-wing ideal, when the US is virtually the only country in the world where this is even an issue.

Yes, with the courts complicating things and incentivizing both sides to play chess with the issue.

All I am saying is DO NOT expect something to happen if Trump gets re-elected and Democrats control congress. A blue wave will bot guarantee shit.

I know. There's no magic solution even with a Democratic President in 2020. It will depend on the makeup of Congress and the leadership of Congress.

That's not the type of debate I'm talking about. I'm talking about floor time for immigration bills, amendments, up and down votes, etc to get a bill agreed to that can muster the 60 votes. Some of it needs to be done behind the scenes, but some of it needs to be done on the Senate and House floor.

ammendnents, sure.
but like i said, the general idea of just giving them floor time to "talk" and advertise their bill did very little in february.
what i think needs to happen is that these people either need to be held accountable, and FORCED to do their fucking jobs for once and pass something, or be voted out for people that are willing to negotiate and willing to not be so partisan.

and i'm not talking about the awful centrists like a lindsey graham who are bi-partisan on all the wrong things.
lindsay, who is a liberal with immigration, yet a complete warhawk nutjob.
but more people like carlos curbelo and grassley who took a step forward and introduced bills, some that needed work, others that were simple enough to pass.
dems don't have this same type of problem but what they do have a problem with is being utterly whipped by people like schumer and pelosi who espouse the "our way or no way" kind of thinking that leads to nothing getting done.

Trump is getting re-elected 100% (assuming he isn’t impeached or something like that). There’s so many achievements that Americans really care about more than all these scandals. These scandals are immaterial compared to the achievements Americans are seeing. Americans are seeing their retirement accounts making BANK for over a year now and they perceive the NK threat completely gone. Their net pays have also gone up drastically after the Fed Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and every quarter they see STRONG Jobs reports. I’m not trying to give Trump credit for all of this but this is what the average American will see as his admin achieving. I’m going to argue that if Dreamers are legalized, Trump will gain among immigrants/Hispanic voters making his chances even brighter and this in my opinion is the main reason Democrats are not willing to compromise!! The average level headed Trump supporter (not talking about the radicals who follow Breitbart) actually support Dreamer legalization.

Not even close in my opinion. Full control would mean a SOLID undisputed 60/40 majority. I think a full Republican majority of that sort has a higher chance of passing immigration reform (of course a conservative version) compared to a full Democrat majority.
