On the other hand, when you nominate a skilled occupation for Australian PR, both your education and your work experience need to be related to each other and to your nominated skilled occupation.

2. Under express entry, Canada has a maximum time frame of 6 months for application processing for majority of the candidates whereas for Australia is ranges between 8–12 months.

3. Australia has a very small list of occupations to choose from. If you don’t have education and work experience in any of those occupations, you are not eligible to apply. If you wish to look beyond this list, you will need to go for state sponsorship, which under the current circumstances are also very limited and oblige you to commit to stay in the nominating state for two years. Canada on the other hand has a long list of occupations to nominate a skill from.

4. The cost of applying for PR is way cheaper for Canada.
Yes from what I know Canada is cheaper and perhaps faster (personally for me Australia was too far from the US)
And Trudeau has relaxed the rules somewhat. For those who qualify, it’s best to apply before a conservative government comes in (his popularity is down). I don’t know too much but the other Daca person in Canada with me had looked in to Australia. Will see if they can provide more info.

As for what Swim mentioned, I’d like to add that if you are able to find a job here, you certainly don’t need as many points then since they assign the highest points to those with a job offer (although I did not have one). Also, from my limited experience, US job experience is looked at favorably here. Not trying to get anyone’s hopes high but I think it’s worth looking in to. Also, learning French will help get you points.

Check out this forum. It’s where I got most of my info when submitting my application. Let me know if you guys have any questions.

i guess it's different for everyone... did u calculate your prospective score before officially applying?

Does a double major count as two bachelors degrees/diplomas/certificates?

This gave me 449 points. Maybe I should move to Canada.

Yes I believe it counts as two degrees

Check out the canadavisa forum to see what the current threshold is. Either way, you can join the pool for 1 year at a time (it’s free) and wait until the threshold goes down. I may be wrong but I think you can also adjust your points while you’re in the pool, and if u don’t get an invite after 1 year, you can re-submit and enter again.

I have heard of people getting approved with 430 points
It just depends on what the cut off is when you’re in the pool - the cut off fluctuates over time and spikes during certain times of the year esp around May when graduates enter the market (demand for jobs goes up and need for foreign workers goes down)

All my steps for applying....(the rules keep changing so they may be slightly different now)

Yes you can but it requires more proof of funds (to basically support you both when you first move and while you get settled in)

I think there’s also an option to select whether they will move with you now or later. But you absolutely have to disclose your marital status in the initial application.

I just checked and it’s actually question #1 when calculating your points! They have to provide their educational info, work experience and take the IELTS too.

Damn. Awesome. How long have you been waiting for an invitation to apply?

The reason I ask is because I have the opportunity to get married. But Canada sounds much better than the U.S right now.

I was thinking of attempting to do both, but if I leave I have the 10 year ban. It is a tough decision.

Can you come back to the U.S as a tourist once you get the Canadian PR? The only thing stopping me from leaving this country is the fact I would not be able to see my family for 10 years
