This was initially only my backup plan but due to american politics, I made the move.
I don’t know where you live but if you live in Toronto, can you compare rents in Toronto with those in NYC.

This. And even though my parents live here, I’ll just get an American tourist visa so I can visit America whenever I want. When I become a Canadian citizen, I wanna apply to med school in America since doctors can self petition without a labor certification if they work in an underserved area.

NYC varies depending on which borough you're in. Somewhat similar here. Toronto suburbs are somewhat comparable to some parts in Borough of Queens. You can rent one bedroom at around 1500-1800 Canadian dollars ($1150-1400 USD). Obviously gets cheaper as you get away from the city. e.g. a city 1.5 hours drive from downtown rent was like 800 Canadian Dollars ($600 USD) for one bedroom.

I'm assuming the 1500-1800 number is for the suburbs and not downtown? In that case, would it be safe to say that 1 bedrooms in Downtown Toronto are about 2000 USD (somewhat less than the rents in Manhattan south of 96th)?

How does the metro compare? I've heard horror stories about delays from using Toronto's trains. I don't expect it to be as efficient as the NYC subway but are these complaints overblown?

Not trying to speak for Elastic but simply sharing my experience - Yes 1500-1800 is for areas 30-60 mins north of downtown while downtown is $2000+ CAD. Rents were lower in early 2018 but have gone up due to demand and new stricter mortgage qualifications. Apartments near subway stations are obviously priced higher.

Trains and buses are decent. There are delays but nothing crazy. The fast trains cost slightly more but are pretty much on time - downside is they don’t go to every part of the city. Many people drive and I find having a car is beneficial although I do take public transit when I can.

This thread is really informative. Have any of you thought about finding a way to immigrate back to the US?

ive been texting the dreamers that recently moved to Canada, they got advised not to try to fly back to the US yet since they are still on the PR stage. maybe once they are citizens they would.
