He will most likely just derive status from the parents.

This version of the Dream Act is ... satisfactory.

I cannot help but be disappointed, however, with the conditional green card provision. Why conditional? Why can't it be a regular green card especially since we'll have the opportunity for citizenship after 5 years like other immigrants. I hope these questions are answered to our satisfaction.

Really? ugh

That would probably be the only provision in this Dream Act that's worse off than the past versions of the Dream Act. Before, we got conditional green cards. I am frowning.

with the old Dream Act it went like this

Conditional Green Card for 6 years, green card for 5 years, then 5 years for citizenship

old dream act : 16 years until citizenship

New Dream Act

5 years of RPI >green card> citizenship, as soon you get your green card, you can petition for citizenship

this is way better man

Still, though, why call it an RPI? For all intents and purposes, we'll be on a path to citizenship in 5 years just like regular green card holders. I know we're not eligible for federal benefits and I guess that's fine for those 5 years but that can easily be done through conditional green cards too.

They're making all these new categories just to satisfy the 'no amnesty' crowd who are just a tiny minority of even the Republican party. Why are Senators like Rubio trying to appease these people?
