If accepted, applicants would obtain temporary citizenship for six years, during which they must obtain a two-year college degree or spend two years in military service to obtain permanent residency.
really? temporary citizenship?

The only sticking point appears to be timing and logistics — Democratic leaders are unsure if a comprehensive bill can be drafted before the end of the year. Schumer’s subcommittee will insist on input, as well as possibly other committees, and the looming fight over health care reform may push the issue into 2010.
nothing in this article is "sure" about anything. articles say there "may" be 60 votes, even durbin isnt sure about the prospect of passing anything major.

these articles pop up every year. seen it, read it before. nothing surprising. take it with a grain of salt.

the most interesting part of the article, and probably the most telling because it is a direct quote and not half assed assertion made by the journalist, is this:

Quote:
"I think it could pass if called. And of course Sen. Lugar's co-sponsorship gives me some confidence that a few Republicans will support it,” Durbin said. “But it's highly unlikely that anything major on immigration like that, on its own, would be considered. It's more likely that it would be part of a more comprehensive bill.”

Durbin said he is “impatient” to pass the bill and that Democratic Conference Vice Chairman Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) has agreed to hold hearings on the bill.
if Durbin really thinks DREAM has slim chance of being considered as stand alone, then good god, we're all gonna be stuck in this shithole till 2010, or more likely, 2011. at least schumer promised to have hearings on DREAM. i guess thats the silver lining.

It's great to have someone as passionate about this as Durbin is, on our side.

It is one source, I have mentioned this before there is no way to predict a 100% sure vote in politics. In poli-sci we draw conclusion from sources, this source adds another indicator that Dream may, EMPHASIS on "may" have the votes. However, it is comforting to know the environment is shifting towards our favor.

Yep, never count your chicks before they hatch. Just keep on calling and don't get complacent.
