It'd be like the Driving Privilege Cards we get here in Utah. It's a little embarrassing to show it at movie theaters, etc, but at least you can drive in peace.

hey i dont care if it does label me as different. atleast i will be driving. i think that if this passes it shows that we (immigrants) can be good members of society and deserve to get basic rights.

little by little the ball gets rolling. it starts with things like AB 540 and drivers license. each thing is a victory in itself. lets hope that ah-nuld signs it.

I understand that it would make life easier, but what I don't understand is how a police officer wouldn't have suspicions if he/she pulled you over and you were carrying one of these cards. Why would a citizen get one of these if he/she can get the I.D. that's valid everywhere. It'd be nice, but I'm just worried about the potential discrimination that could come with it. I don't know...

"I think that's very inappropriate," he said. "It harkens back to the era when Jews were required to wear yellow armbands. It harkens back to Puritan times in my home state when we branded people with scarlet letters."

Couldn't agree more, this type of mentality is incredibly regressive. Although I'm sure many of us would be willing to compromise.

Exactly. We want equal rights, we don't just want to settle with whatever sub-class license lawmakers deem adequate for us. It's branding people, and it's not just.

just my 2cents.

dumb.
Dumb is having to drive with out a license and fear getting a 380 dollar ticket, your car impounded and possibly arrested for that.

And please dont give me any BS about not driving cause here in SJ its a necessity.

Uhhh. This is my last post in this thread, lol. I agree completely that driving is a necessity for some people and that driving without one is dumb and we shouldn't have to be subject to it. However, my whole concern is about how this labels us apart from everyone else. It's not fair to treat us like second class humans because we're missing a piece of paper.

that's it.

i think we can all agree that we are not going to get our full rights overnight. this here is more like the 3/5th's compromise, is not about human equality its more about the fact that they are beginning to acknowledge us and we are getting things done a few steps at a time.

sorry if i offend anyone with the reference, my point is that its a small step in the right direction. even if its not a right step. say the 3/5ths' compromise can be comparable to having different licenses.

I am sorry but this is about Human Equality just as much as it is about anything. What i am saying is that the idea is incredibly regressive, it's like American Society is moving backwards in time, out of paranoia. What's next ? branding felons' liscense, than minor offenders etc etc
