Bruinman, just a suggesiton... please consider to not use a "deficit" model to reply to people's opinions. The deficit model explains why we have all this immigration mess and why people discriminate. Instead of focusing on what is lacking in someone's opinion, start with what IS there. In this case, I start with what I am seeing in your posts and I think it's more constructive to steer away from people's "lack of knowledge".

At any rate, I do not believe that the issue resides in allowing "chain migration". If I recall correctly, US citizens can petition their relatives to apply, as long as they go through the legal/bureucratic process. If DREAM beneficiaries are on a path to citizenship, once they become citizens, there shoudl not be any law that prevents people from petitioning relatives. On the other hand, if perm residents can sponsor, why can't we?

i'd sound less harsh if they start responding to my opinion with even attitude. not even asking for respect, just stop trying to refute my opinion by trying to belittle me. im willing to engage in a civil discussion. but when you start off responding to my opinion with something like "From your post, i can guess you either did not know that and blurted something out with your limited knowledge or you knew about it and just simply did not care" and ask me if i know the civil rights act in a condescending manner, im going right back at you with something thats actually right without resorting to blatent cussing.

like this guy:
"Unconstitutional.
Good try though."

no need to be crude and condescending. i'll reply back with same attitude even though that would make me as much an asshole as he is.

actually most people read my opinion and reply in a positive manner whether they agree or not. its just few kids around here that are intolerant get irritated over my opinion and feel the need to throw a few jabs at me. and i look like the bad guy because i usually KO them out.

you got a valid point. however, one of the most repeated concerns by the republicans is that dreamies would benefit from DA and sponsor family members, turning DREAM into eventual "mass amnesty". thats their point of attack. this provision is something that would be extremely difficult to pass. however, im just throwing it out there as an opinion that thats something that can be considered if we want more votes to get DA passed. its a compromise im suggesting, however unlikely it'd be.

Im not trying to get into an altercation here, so please dont take this as disrespect, but the problem people have with you bruinman, is that some of your views are so radical, and its so obvious at times you only care about yourself and that is not how most people on this forum feel, so it gets under peoples skin when the essence of your post are "memememememe...etc" Im surprised you haven't self deported yet, because some of your post clearly illustrate how much you believe so strongly in man made laws. Your a "criminal", standing on a pedestal, looking down on other "criminals." Quoted for obvious reasons. Please don't take it the wrong way.

I appreciate your attempt at reason, but you can consider this thread a lost cause seeing as how Bruinman will stop at nothing to virtually shout you and others down.

How I pity thee!

can you tell me what i have said that is so "radical"? what, the fact that i said i think CIR is unlikely to happen this year or next year?

in other words, these same people cant stand views and opinions they dont agree with, and thus resorts to belittling and disparaging remarks.

im just stating my opinions and you chose to see me as "being on high pedestal" based on your own biased interpretation of my opinion.

i dont look down on you unless you start to look down on me and start shit with me. link me to one post where i came into a thread and started trashing anybody. zero.

I'm very very glad Benita received a temporary stay! I recently received a 9-month stay, so I know exactly how good extra time feels...yay!

Now, I'm the only one left....

My question is...can my citizen sister petition for me even if I don't fall under 245i?
I came here with tourist visa back in '91 and overstayed...

My dad received his LPR through LIFE Act....

I'm trying to get a lawyer for this but I'm a little tied with school right now...any information you guys know may help. Thanks
Out of all the civility and respect I can garner, to NOT turn this into an ugly debate... I would sincerely like to ask if you would change your own personal position under different circumstances, Bruinman.

I'm not trying to call your position out on the terms of a circumstantial ad hominem. But, I'm just curious, if things were different, and your whole family were not in the position that you stated above in the quote, would you still be so adamant about DREAMers not being able to sponsor once they are Citizens?

adamant?i merely offered it as an opinion, acknowledging that its something that would be unlikely to pass. you are putting words into my mouth.

but as to your question, yes i would. im here to support the passage of DREAM ACT and its going to need sacrifices from both sides to get this done. DREAM act is designed to help people like us, not our parents, not our aunties and uncles, however difficult that might sound to you

the whole idea behind DA is that we didnt knowingly commit this crime when we were babies and little kids.

you are starting to confuse principles between DA and CIR. i support CIR, but im not here to advocate CIR. im here to advocate DREAM. and DREAM is to help us, not the rest.
