From the Miami Herald - Walter Lara, the undocumented Miami resident scheduled to be deported July 6, gets to stay in the United States for another year.

So he has 1 year? And he has one chance for the Dream Act to pass this or early next year.

What happens next year? Does he get another extention?

It's really sucks that he got in this situation and it's scary to think that the only reason he got a stay is through sheer luck with his case getting media attention.

Honestly, as strange as it sounds, getting a stay of deportation for a year at this moment would be perfect for me. I am planning to go back if the DA doesn't pass within a year. And according to I-765 section 274a.12(a)11 people with deferred departure are allowed to apply for an EAC, which would ultimately mean they can apply for a SS# and get a DL and what not.

I can apply for DEFERRED action for 2 years, then I can apply for EAD, and strangely, the UCIS may give me a change to adjust my status due to the humanitarian statement. I just do not know should I apply it or not.
