with lots of outraged or scratching their heads the smartest thing for him to do is to not accept the award a la Marlon Brando when he was getting an Oscar for the "Godfather."

In my head, he'll deserve a peace prize when he finally gives us the peace of mind we've been fighting for.

I think we are expecting too much. 9 months isn't enough time to fix all the shit that's going on in our country.

About him winning...You know, he gave the World motivation. He showed everyone that through effort and sacrifice you can accomplish anything you want. He gave the world hope during a tremendous crisis. And yes, maybe he hasn't yet accomplished those "peace-related" goals he wants to accomplish, but this award will sure motivate him.

I thought awards are suppose to be given after one has accomplished what the award is suppose to be recognizing. Obama is pimp, but I don't know that his accomplishments thus far warrant the NPP award. Anyway, congrats to the guy...

I think that was an accomplishment.

According to Nobel's will, the Peace Prize should be awarded "to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses."

Somehow, at this point in time, I feel that Obama does not meet Nobel's criteria. Maybe you are right, maybe motivating the world is enough. Unfortunately, not much has change as a result of that motivation...Maybe with time. We will see, I hope.

DEFINITELY WELL DESERVED award for President Obama. Ever since he took office, he has produced a complete reversal of the policy of hatred followed by Bush. Never in a million years would I have thought that Bush would give a speech to the Muslim world like the one Obama did at the University of Cairo in Egypt. Diplomacy is the key element that his administration is following to interact with the world's leaders especially controversial ones like Ahmadinejad. Some people are arguing that Obama doesn't deserve it or its too early. I'm willing to agree that it is too early...just think of it this way, they have given him the award in advance. But he thoroughly deserves it..There should be no doubt about that.

This is a case of premature ‘nobelization’… but it’s not Obama’s fault a bunch of Scandinavians picked him as the winner. I think he was just as stunned as everybody else. I liked his speech though. This man is a wizard with words. I wish he would stop talking and finally did something for us!

Here's Rachel Maddow explaining it best:

Sorry about the wingnut overload throughout the video (Beck, Limbaugh, etc).
