I don't think your allowed to travel out of the country if you have TPS, well you can travel outside the country but you just can't come back into the U.S. I am from El Salvador and some people have TPS and on your TPS card it says "permit not for reentry" so am pretty sure you can't. Someone else asked if people who have TPS are still eligible for TPS well i consulted my attorney about this a while ago and she said that since D.R.E.A.M. Act still has not passed we still don't know.

Exactly Loquito! I for one have no stable residence. I sleep on a friend's living room floor. If it was not for a very good friend my tuition would not be paid this semester. I rely on food pantries for food. The shelter system would not take me and I have slept on the streets a few times. In Novemeber, while sleeping at someone's house the police came and raided the place. I was at the wrong place at the wrong time and thought I would be deported. TPS would help me tremendously. I am happy yet very depressed because of the earthquake. So many lives are lost and the events are tragic. Ask the people from El Salvador, Nicaragua, Somali and the other countries how TPS has helped them in America.

Luvsherry is correct but the applicant has to file for permission for a travel document and give reason as to why.

I'm extremely happy for haitian immigrants that benefit from TPS, Any Status is better than none. And it could maybe act as a gateway to something better, not sure.
Forgive me for asking this though, to everyone else who isn't Haitian, did seeing/hearing about this for the first time today send chills down your spine like it did for me?
I couldnt decipher if it was an "urgh" moment or a "Yay!" moment... The feeling i got, i mean.

Travel Outside the United States
If you have TPS and wish to travel outside the United States, you must apply for a travel authorization. Travel authorization for TPS is issued as an advance parole document if DHS determines it is appropriate to approve your request. This document gives you permission to leave the United States and return during a specified period of time. To apply for advance parole, you must file Form I-131, Application for Travel Document (see form on right).

If you leave the United States without requesting advance parole, you may lose TPS and you may not be permitted to re-enter the United States.

oh and im not applying for tps because im married to a USC and hopefully i will be granted my GC real soon which mean i can petition for my family members.

i did thought about other people getting mad that haitians are getting this but you need to realized it's not something they can have forever nor does it provide them permanent residency.

and thespian, i hope you do file real quick and get yourself your license and a job. good luck!!

yea i know, but it wasnt really a "getting mad" feeling, we're all in the same boat, we know how it feels. It was more of a thought that the govt may think theyre gettin away with granting some kind of amnesty... so they wont have to do anything else. Politicians are twisted, they would think like that. This was mad quick and sudden to me.

Stilldreamin I know how you felt!........At first i had heard that the government was planning on giving Haitians TPS, then at night I heard that it had been passed. I didn't know how to react. If I should jump of happiness or be sad about it. It was an unknown feeling........I'm glad that at least Haitians dont have to worry about their legal status for 18 months. I'm sure the government is going to extend the TPS longer like they've been doing with El Salvador and Nicaragua. By the way sherry, How is your family in Haiti? were they affected by the earthquake? oh and is your mom and sister applying for TPS?

I'm glad your dad is fine and that he's helping others. I wish I could go and help out. It makes me so sad to see all those people with no hope.. oh yeah, it definitely is better to do the forms without a lawyer. I'm so happy for your sister. She's gonna get her license! she's 17 right?
