Why am I getting the feeling that this is once again just "words" and I have learned from the health care debate is we should never trust the Obama admin on deadline.

Obama was committed to health care and it has taken more than a year. Wonder what happens when Obama is NOT committed.

You are brilliant, Mr. President! Gosh, why didn't we (activists and 'illegals")think of republicans for immigration reform? Do you mean the ones that are working with you in passing health care reform? Thinking....thinking...(still thinking)...oh, I see. This is a game, right? And the winnning answer is...NO REPUBLICAN WANTS TO WORK WITH YOU! You can now pass the buck and irresponsibly blame the 'other' party for not enacting YOUR agenda.

GRAHAM: PASS HEALTH CARE AND WE'LL KILL IMMIGRATION REFORM

Quote:
I expressed, in no uncertain terms, my belief that immigration reform could come to a halt for the year if health care reconciliation goes forward. For more than a year, health care has sucked most of the energy out of the room. Using reconciliation to push health care through will make it much harder for Congress to come together on a topic as important as immigration

So, it looks like they will not go piecemeal with immigration reform. DA will be part of CIR and we really have to get angry and pressure, pressure, pressure. Every article out there as of tonight indicates that they will be using most of the elements that have already been written in the 2007 bill. I cannot go to DC on the 21st, but I have a couple letters that I'm ready to send to the White House, the leadership in Congress and cc several activist organizations - not the big, useless ones, and I mean you NCLR, MALDEF, etc; that refused to hold this President to his word; but the ones who made this meeting happen today- And I will be sending them certified mail. They aren't sappy letters by any means, but I do believe they will give them a bit of an eye opening. We have to become a PR nightmare. Those of us that have immediate family who are citizens are the ones with the most bargaining power because thru them we will make sure they act on this issue. There are two big lessons in this struggle, one that the worst we can do is stay quiet and be invisible; the other is that when we finally get status, let's never forget to not give our vote for granted.

Ahahaha, why am I not surprised!

This is getting old. Once again, nothing but talk. If I don't see any movement in congress for CIR or a least the Dream Act, after March 21, I'm going to be so done with this country. I love this country so much but I can't picture myself being 30 years old and still illegal. That's just like no way.

Obama told immigration advocates today that he's only the president, so there's only so much he can do
by John Aravosis (DC) on 3/11/2010 10:20:00 PM

How silly of them not to demand a meeting with someone who has actual power.

"We met with the President. He stayed with us for an hour. He started the meeting by saying that he's always been on our side on the subject of comprehensive immigration reform. But the group reacted by telling him they needed more from him, that he get more involved in the problem, and in finding a solution. He defended himself, saying yes, he understands there's a problem, but that he's the President, not the Senate or the Congress."
George Bush wasn't the Senate or the Congress and he seemed to do quite well getting what he wanted. Lots of presidents do. That's because they do more than just give speeches, and then tell everyone how powerless they are to make real change. They actually fight for change. Fight for their promises.

Well, who would have thought that GWB in hindisight was a great leader? This story is getting really f****ing old "I won't do anything if the Republicans won't do something". Now we know the formula for success: Democratic President/Republican Congress; Republican President/Democratic Congress thereby effectively forcing "bipatisanship". One won't be able to work without the other. I believe the president has his wish of "bipartisanship" heading his way in November...

Guys,

Let's puts this in perspective, how much clout of passing does immigration reform have? Obama, may just be spinning our wheels bcus chances of passage are slim, however, he can they say he tried and put the effort in. However, I also hav my fingers crossed, and will make my fair share of phonecalls and e-mails.
