When do you think House will take up the bill?

Yes. The article you found is an article about an article on The Hill. The article on The Hill does not mention the DREAM Act as far as I remember. The reason the Republicans are complaining about Senator Reid's plan of voting the Defense Authorization bill is because after the election, some Democrats and Republicans might break from the "nay" group to vote for the bill if their Democratic colleagues are able to convince them.

Anyway, the point is that the DREAM Act will be voted as an amendment on Tuesday. Its fate will be determined on that day. So, gaining 60 votes for the DREAM Act by Tuesday is VERY, VERY, VERY crucial.

For now, the House really doesn't matter. It is likely that the House will take the bill after the Senate passes it. In fact, the Representatives will be busy campaigning for their lives. And, they are busy right now. It will happen after the election as well. Like the Senate, the election will determine the fate of many Democratic Representatives. They can be easily convinced to vote for the Defense Authorization bill after the election.

So, if it passes on Tuesday, then there's no way for it to be rejected after the elections, correct?

I don't like this at all...first they said they would vote to attach DreamAct next week as an amendment and then vote the entire Defense bill. They later came out and told the press that a new CIR bill would also be introduced before the month's end, apparently, as an effort to up the ante and keep the ball rolling for full immigration reform as a goal. The defense bill is to be voted with no debate. The debate is only for attaching additional amendments. Once the amendments are voted either for or against, is straight to the voting floor. WHEN?

]Now, after a meeting with Obama (AGAIN!!!!!!), they are backtracking on the dates for potential enactment of the legislation. This isn't a coincidence, and I honestly feel we are getting played. I hope I'm wrong.

1) I think DA does actually have a very real chance of getting attached to the Defense bill.

2) There is a very real veto threat from the President on this bill if certain expenditures aren't removed.

3) Today it was announced that the House would cut their 'work' schedule to three weeks only in order for members to campaign.

Ok people: The Senate won't be back in session until November 14th at the Majority leader's request (Reid). A full two weeks after the elections. Then it's Thanksgiving break. Then is off for the Christmas holiday for most of December. Just exactly when do they plan on voting on the defense bill? I find it incredulous that a bill of this magnitude has NO DATE for actual voting. If the Republicans take control of either house, let alone the Senate, they have every reason to stall this until the next Congress starts in January next year. The Democrats better not be thinking of then saying they will have to wait to include DA in the CIR bill because if they are; we better stop them at this game right now.

Gutierrez and Obama are behind this. It is not a coincidence that this shift in timeline comes after their effing meeting. Including DA in a must-pass bill is probably the only viable and sure option for its passage and they've known, and we've known this for a very long time. This could have been done 15 months ago and could have changed the lives of many deserving people by now; many of whom have been by now deported.

They are just playing us. There is no way anything is going to pass, if they bring out both legislation, one after another. They just want to do this to say "we did try. vote for me and I'll keep trying". Well Im done seeing you try.

Tuesday is not do or die though. It doesn't throw out the DA bill.

What are you guys talking about? Did you read my posts?
Nothing about the DREAM Act being attached to the defense bill has changed.

The Senate is going to begin considering the Defense Authorization bill on Monday.
They will have a vote to invoke cloture on the motion to proceed to the bill. They will have votes on several amendments to the bill, including the DREAM Act.

So, nothing changed. If the DREAM Act survives the vote on Tuesday, there is a very high chance of it being passed in the Senate. The whole defense bill will be voted after the election. That is the only change. Yes, it is not clear that there are 60 votes for the attachment of the DREAM Act to the defense bill, but it will be voted on Tuesday as planned.

Yes, DA User. You are partially correct. The DREAM Act has been out there for the next ten years, and it can't die if lawmakers like Senator Durbin keep bringing it back to the Senate. But, if it is not attached to the defense bill on Tuesday, it will not be brought back in the Senate for the next few years. The number of supporters for the bill will dramatically drop, and there is no way of passing it in the Senate unless many of new Senators in 2013 are pro-immigration.

calm down the DA and DADT vote is still next week. They're just delaying the vote on final passage of the bill until after elections because they want to debate the republicans about bush tax cut extensions in couple weeks before the go on recess again
