I may wanna borrow your crystal ball

It is not only for what he said, but Reid and Democrats in general are pissed off because they started the lame-duck session with an ambitious agenda and they haven't been able to get anything done the way they wanted... For political reasons they MUST pass as much of the Democratic agenda as possible. Also, I think that some of the 'on-the-fence' Sentors would vote for cloture if threatened with staying in D.C. For the holidays.

I highly doubt that they will return just to pass the DREAM Act.

Unless the nation experiences a national emergency and requires the Congress to act, they probably won't return. They will either finish everything before Christmas or delay remaining bills until the next Congress. In other words, if bills that are not important to the government operations do not pass before Christmas, they are dead until the next Congress.

its not crystal ball. its how congress works. once a bill is filibustered, it never comes back again in the same session, let alone lame duck session.

You know, I would just move on, but I sense a tone of irony from your replies that makes me uncomfortable. So, here it is:

If the Senate does vote to invoke cloture, that vote may not be reconsidered. On
the other hand, it is in order to reconsider the vote by which the Senate voted against
invoking cloture.

Under Senate rules, if a vote to invoke cloture fails (they didn't get 60 votes) they can vote on it again, and again, and again... until it is invoked.
So, it may be your opinion that it would not be voted on again if it fails (which I hope it won't), but that is not "how congress works" (the Senate), if they choose to prolong the lame duck session and re-vote on it, they may.

The Democrats need to show a win, particularly after yesterday and the omnibus bill- and many of them appear to be seriously pissed about how the repubs, in particular the hard-line and or teaparty ones are playing all this out.

You notice the blatant lies that they will spew about DREAM, well yesterday they were doing the same with the spending bill.

Many people have been talking about them staying through the holidays, and some conservatives made what could have been a serious gaffe by claiming it was "anti- Christian" for them not to be home for the most holy day of the year - and the week before and after --- It was pointed out to them that millions of Americans have to work Christmas day, and never get two paid weeks off- ever.

It would be smart for Reid to push through DREAM regardless of the cloture vote - call them on the filibuster if needed. In the bigger political picture it would just make sense.

wrong again. thats not how congress works. once a bill is filibustered, it is never brought up again in the same manner, in such short period of time. thats the whole point of the cloture vote. yes, technically, it can be brought up again, but in real world, it doesnt get brought up. thats how congress works.

As it stands, the bill does not have enough votes.
And I hate to say this, but I think that you know, it's all over...

Regardless of if its brought back and if they try again or not, I will not be waiting here for that.
