Never lose hope. Get angry if need be, but never lose hope. The senate's filibuster of the DREAM really angered me; however, I have studied too hard, dealt with cranky professors, and accomplished so much to call it quits. WE CAN NEVER GIVE UP OR LOSE HOPE.

I totally agree. OR some of the most influential members of both parties must work together to co-author an authentic bipartisan version of the DREAM Act. Let's e-mail our state senators and/or the President about this.

Mhhhzzzzz. Very good question. A good start would be to contact opposing Republican senators, such as Senator Hutchinson, who released statements declaring that they voted against the bill because it was too broad or was rushed.

As for the House of Representatives, I remember many Republicans saying that they opposed it for procedural reasons (e.g. it did not go through committee) or because of the lack of time for the introduction and debate of amendments to the bill. So, I would not view the Republican domination of the House in 2011 as absolutely negative . . . especially if Obama, which I hope he does live up to his word, will be "engaging" (which I hope he means negotiating) with Republicans.

Let's be optomistic and fight. Remember, the President established an important precendent on bipartisanship by ratifying the tax cuts and unemployment benefits bill. I think he can have the same success with immigration--especially the DREAM Act. I would also steer away from some Spanish news channels, like Jorge Ramos and Noticiero Univision. They make everything so negative and discouraging with stupid analysts. Wait until 2012? My butt. We have waited more than ten years.

How about signing some sort of order that stops the deportation of young undocumented non-criminal immigrants that could qualify for the DA?

There's so much he can do in the meantime but he choses not to do them and instead this CIR/DA debate is going to be dragged into 2012 for his re-election campaign. Sorry, but I'm not convinced that he's serious about helping us, he's gotta do better than that to convince me, but nevermind, with Saturday's votes it's clear that what I think doesn't matter.
Agree. But, he seemed pretty serious at his conference. Plus, know that there are so many people pressuring him on this topic, such Latino Democratic legislators who are ready to ponce him as soon as he starts to deviate from his promises.

I am hopeful that he will be effective in pressuring for the passage of the DREAM Act.

Well, how do you know? Republicans want border security and Democrats want legalization. Badda bing badda boom. I smell some grounds for compromise.

Look everyone. If you are going to have a defeatist attitude and be pessimistic, then--with all due respect--step aside. We have to keep fighting this--regardless of all the odds/challenges. Many people want us to give up.

I just hope this time around they actually do something to get the message across to voters. What do you think of the prospects of a Republican Dream bill and what do you think the age cutoff would be?
They could go anti-immigrant in order to win state-wide contest, but to win the national presidential election, they would be dumb to alienate minority voters.

The reality is that you either sit back, do nothing, and let time pass by or keep fighting, striving for a resolution to our immigration status. If the President had your attitude, we would be done with.
