Don't you remeber DA standalone bill in last Dec??. We didn't had enough votes despite of Dems majority in Senate. So we really don't want to ruin our chances by failur unless we have enough votes. I dont't even see how CIR even have chance of passing it. Its all depends on 2012 elections, If Obama gets relected with Dems majority in both senate and house then we have best chance ever passing CIR/DA.

I also applaud the manner in which immigration reform is being handled. It is being handled carefully. Democrats, at least Schumer, clearly do not want to rush CIR by holding a hearing. If CIR does happen this year, the debate is going to be quite lengthy and rigorous.
Yupp, but we will need atlest Mcconnel and Bouhner to open dead lock from immigration.

Well I must say, this is good news. Good news that Schumer has grown some balls and is taking steps to start the talks and finally stepping up his game cause the last I heard of immigration coming out of his mouth was in February when he and Lindsay Graham(R) were trying to work on a deal and creating an immigration reform bill. All we can do now is be patient and let God do the rest. Also, the Dream Act will pass!

Tell me what your plan is in case the outcome of the 2012 elections is not your ideal picture for CIR? Wait two more years?

Look, I know passing such a bill is extremely difficult, but waiting without trying to a bipartisan solution to this issue is also futile because the results for the 2012 elections are uncertain, no matter how many polls, data, and scholarly feedback you bring into your argument.

The issue is that Schumer is not revealing the details about the talks that are "moving along well and regularly." Who is he talking to??????????????

All the republicans in the senate are now for the border security first plan.
That wouldn't be a bad idea...but they, being the dicks they are, will try to score cheap political points with their teabagger base and attach a bill that would make it a felony to harbor/employ/know/drive with/talk to/be friends/eat in the same restaurant-an illegal alien. Don't be lured into a trap with talk of faux compromise because if we've learned anything in the last 3 years is that they, the republicans, will play nice and then kick you in the balls and stab you in the back.

We don't know what will happen in 2012 but we sure know that Obama has good chance of getting reelected by looking at GOP clowns. Relection will bring booster power to Obama and with that he can get CIR/DA though both chambers no matter whoes in majority.

Even if that dosent work he can atlest by pass DA through his excutive power. There schould be no reason for GOP to diny with freshly elected President.

Nic,

I truly respect your stance, but I still maintain that no one knows what will happen in 2012, regardless of the high possibilities that Obama might have in getting re-elected. If Obama does win and the congressional status quo remains after the elections, the scenario will be the same; Republicans will always resist. I really doubt Obama's re-election will make Republicans submissive to Obama's agenda.

So, my stance is to have legislators seek for a compromise on CIR now because waiting for the ideal congressional scenario to pass CIR is frustrating and futile; time goes by and our lives are in limbo. So, WHY NOT PUSH NOW TO SEE IF THIS ISSUE GETS RESOLVED EARLIER THAN EXPECTED?
