What kind of law is that?
You lock them up for couple of months and give them SSN and work permit for 2 years?
What happens after two years? Will they haunt you down if you don't leave this country?

Immigration law. Which is too complex for anyone's good.

If you don't reapply after two years, you're not in a stay authorized by the Attorney General again (note: you still have no status throughout the whole thing). The issue there is that they already know who you are and where you live, so you're probably risking an order of deportation. Flee from that order and you're a fugitive looking at a ten-year ban from relief, including adjustment of status by marriage to a citizen.

Oh my God. To me, this is an excellent precedent. An SSN, a work permit, and protection from deportation would be extremely nice. I would wait even longer until the passage of the DREAM Act.

Wow! More good news. Thanks.

So, an SSN and a work permit would be super nice.

If this is the good news, perhaps DHS will require that we report to a local office/register online for a work permit and SSN.

Thank you for bringing that issue to my attention. You make a good point.

Well, I think many DREAMERS would be willing to take that risk, so they can use their hard-earned degrees. I would be willing to take that risk. I do not have a SSN and work permit, and life is too stressful.

What is the exact law that says you are eligible for the SS# and two years work permit if you get caught? Sounds ridiculous.

Has anyone ever thought that the girl in the article is in a different situation? Maybe she was eligible for something else in the law.

Cite the section of the law where it says being arrested by ICE warrants you a SSN and a two years work permit please so people don't go run off to the nearest ICE office.

Wow this kind of makes me a little nervous taking public transportation here in the Bay Area. Should I be worried taking the Caltrain/BART?

Another good point.

I don't think the article gives the specifics of the girl's case. Maybe, she had a relative that could help her fix her status.

Nonetheless, if DHS does declare that "we cannot be deported," wouldn't the next logical thing that the DHS would do would be give us a work permit and SSN? I am curious.

Hmm, you know that actually sounds possible.

Even though they only gave it to her for two years. Oh man that sounds like such a relief. One could go out of the country to look for jobs elsewhere,go visit family and get a license. I would take work permit anyway.
