Its not slavery. It is insulting to real slaves, because if slaves walked away, they sent bounty hunters after them. If you walk away from the military option, nothing happens

just fucking attach STEM to it. Republicans backed it because that's what industry wants....if you want to study another discipline (ie art, etc...), just double major, simple. Everyone goes to college and you just gotta sit thru classes that may not be of particular interest to you (stem classes). The damn country could benefit from more science education anyways.

So basically Dream Act without art, philosophy or underwater basket weaving majors.

One point on the military. Most permanent residents who join become citizens within six months, allowing them to take on the jobs they want(non-combat), after training. Given that we won't be citizens for another 13 years, expect your job choice to be limited somewhat.

Quote:
While non-citizens may enlist, they will find their job choices extremely limited. DOD policy prohibits granting security clearances to non-U.S. Citizens. Therefore, non-Citizens. who enlist in the United States military will be limited to those jobs which do not require a security clearance.
Quote:
...non-citizen members of the military have only a small, select number of Military Occupational Specialties (MOS) to choose from when enlisting or re-enlisting. In all service branches, immigrants and non-citizens are over-represented in the field of infantry... They are most likely to be called first to the front lines
So keep this in mind when supporting the ARMS Act. When all 1 million+ of us will be applying for the same limited number of noncombat jobs, a vast majority will have to be at the front lines.

Keep in mind that there are only 1.4 million people in the military right now.

I'm not trivializing liberal arts majors, btw. My minor is in history while my major is in STEM. They're just an easy target and I could make fun of them all day. But there majors aren't any easier than ours.

well, they kind of are....i have a degree in fine arts along w/STEM. The time you have to devote is probably more in some areas, but the 'thinking' part is not as stressful.

Actually i think something could happen to some, alot of stories lately about the real bounty hunters (ICE) putting Dreamers in jail, so dont be so sure despite the memo

There could be a war soon witn Iran, the GOP are looking for some suckers that have no other option then to join to gain legal status... I personally have nothing against the ARMS act, let it pass tomorrow. I if you love the US so much, you have every right to go fight in Middle East, and if you comeback alive more power to you

I just kind of find the ARMS Act, sort of blackmailing well if you join we will give you this, if not ok. There are some other ways i think you can show love for a country, other then military. Unfortunately the GOP doesnt seem to think its possible, because majority of them dont know what a military uniform looks

Instead of protesting against the ARMS Act, the activists need to urge the congress to attach the STEM part to the ARMS Act. This way, it will be supported by the Repubs and Dems. Why is it, that we're the only ones with the sensible solutions? All the politicians have their own special interests, and do not care for us....

this way, the democrats save face, and make the republicans look like assholes if unwilling to compromise.

Because there are only so many slots available in the arms forces, the geniuses in govnmt (NOT) will come up with a f'kd up idea, like that beneficiaries of the ARMS act can be used to to patrol the border...
