But think of it from their perspective: why would they want something that allows you to vote and potentially bring in or legalize millions of others who could eventually vote, and throw them out of their jobs?

That factor I expect they would want to fight tooth and nail till the bitter end.

"whether it’s a visa process that legalizes them and wouldn’t prohibit them in the future from accessing the citizenship process, but it wouldn’t give them a pathway to it specially carved out." --Rubio

Did all of you read this shit?

I think this is good. We will not be prevented from aspiring for citizenship status one day. So, what the fuck are we bitching about? Many of you make the recommendation that we shouldn't trust the GOP. But, fuck. The Democrats, with the exception of Durbin, have not been doing so well on the issue. What did our President promise us? I don't give a fuck if the proposal is coming from the left or right. Just get something done. If any Democrats block Rubio's idea, they are a bunch of inconsiderate [mod edit]. Period.

Dude, I am not going to compare a current visa process with his because he hasn't even presented his damn process. So, how can you assume it will be like the student visa process. If that were the case, he would present an amendment to it for us. God damn it man. You are such a ball buster. For all we know, his visa process might be unique. WHAT I AM TRYING TO HIGHLIGHT HERE IS THAT RUBIO HAS JUST DECLARED THAT HIS SOLUTION WOULD NOT BAN US FROM ASPIRING TO CITIZENSHIP STATUS. THIS WEAKENS WHAT MANY OF YOU ARE SAYING ABOUT SECOND-CLASS CITIZENSHIP AND APARTHEID AND THIS AND THAT. It is not any easier to become a citizen under the DA, may I remind you. Under the current DA, how long before you are able to apply for citizenship, 10 years?

I will end here by saying that I admire Rubio for what he is doing. I wanted action from him. And, he is trying to get on the ball. Kudos Rubio. I salute you.

I'm not against Rubio's proposal, though I would like to point out that current DA did not prevent you for pursuing other avenues of legality during that 10 year wait. The ten year wait was only if you were using the current DA as the way to gain citizenship. If say you married a US citizen during that 10 years, it could be quicker. So in that respect current DA is still better because there is a path to citizenship, even if it is a long wait. Rubio's proposal there is no path; you would have to make your own path (ie: marry a citizen)

(just wondering), if we were to get this “new” visa, I assume if we decided to leave we could leave without activating the 10yr ban…

hmmm...

Fair fair. But, I still think that we should consider it because it is still evidently a path to legalization. In terms of your statement on making your own path with Rubio's bill, let's wait and see how his visa process will work out. Maybe, it will be unique and not as difficult as some of us think will be. Again, the point here is that we will not be barred from becoming citizens. I think that's good news and should cause some opponents of the idea to reconsider their positions.
