Romney was hurting in the Republican primary because Obamacare is modeled after Romneycare, so to give himself an edge over Rick Perry (who defends Texas' instate tuition for DREAMers), he decided to be tough on immigration.

I still cannot understand how Romney missed the golden opportunity to use the immigration issue in his favor. I just cannot understand what the hell happened. It was there for him to seize, but he surprisingly screwed it up. Time will pass, and I guarantee that the handling of this issue will probably be Romney's greatest regret. Rubio's refusal to present the DA alternative this year for the sake of being authentically sympathetic and respectful to our cause did not help at all either.
I caught it by accident and it was the best line of the night. Some of the pundits were saying that Obama shouldn't deal with immigration immediately because it will only cause continued polarization in Washington, D.C. But, at this point it's something that must be dealt with and Obama cannot stall on this issue any longer.

For the first time ever, I am in full agreement with DA User. I believe CIR will be tried in 2013 FOR SURE. The Pres said it clearly in his victory speech. That is going to be a big part of his second agenda. Republicans will be forced to come out and compromise some sort of guest worker program.

Yes I'm starting to have that feeling as well that in the next 4 years it will be tried!

I know the DREAM Act will pass no matter what but CIR needs even more support!

At best we'll just have another 2006 again. CIR might barely pass the senate (I mean democrats actually picked up 4 seats), and not even be mentioned in the house.

You said 2013 in 2009 right?

He sure did. It has been on articles lately too. Dream Act/CIR is taking center stage.
I think Rubio should draft one like he said he would. A path to no direct USC.

A very strict CIR bill and limited but gets everyone on board.

CIR has support. We have like 12 million undocumented.

You guys make is sound like a walk in the park. There is widespread support for immigration reform and moreso for the DREAM Act among the general population, but it's going to be difficult to find a compromise the Republican controlled House will like.

The most important thing we have to do is make sure we are not forgotten in the second term like we were in the first. Keep the focus on immigration so they can't ignore it. Right now the effect of the Latino vote is being given a lot of attention, but soon people will go back to the economy and the economy.

That's what I meant when I said CIR needs more support...from Congress. The population might support it and that's great but in the end we need legislative support.
