US immigration law needs a statute of limitations. You somehow hide for 10 years, you get a green card.

I wonder why he didn't get PR through the registry provision. Where was he in 1986? I am pretty sure there is more to this story. There is a possibility that he has a criminal history.
I wonder about that to.I believe his deportation order was only from the mid-1990's and there are 2 provisions under current law he could apply for.The old IRCA 1986 amnesty and Registry since it looks like he has been here since before 1972.

I certainly agree with this statement; it would be a tragedy to deny someone the right to remain somewhere that they have called home for 50 years. It does not matter if he is related to Obama, everyone should be given this right.

Obama and his uncle must not be close. If I was president and my uncle was going through this, I would do everything in my power to legalize him. But it also shows us how broken our immigration system is. Someone that has resided 50 years here and is related to the president shouldn't have to go through this situation.

Wait a minute, president's uncle was in the country for 50 years? Shouldn't he qualify under the registry provision? 2012 - 50 = 1962 Registry provision requires one to be in US prior to January 1st 1972...

Unless the uncle doesn't have good moral character, but that could be solved with a pardon.
