Don't push your luck Dems. LGBT will eventually get theirs when the supreme court rules in their favor.

Besides, if it's a deal breaker for most Reps, why in the blue hell would you consider it?

I agree with u.
If the fed gov dosnt recognize same sex marriage. Then it shouldn't be put in immigration. After the federal government recognizes same sex marriage then people shouldn't be able to sponsor u for citezinship.
I am speaking from a policy point of view not my personal beliefs.

Let's face it if it isn't included in the language,it will not be honored.
DOMA is the only thing preventing individuals from sponsoring in same sex couples. The interesting thing is gay individuals who work in and for the State Dept. are actually exempt from that and CAN sponsor their partners currently but a nominal US citizen simply cannot. The Supreme Court I believe will also be looking at the issue of DOMA this summer.

My point mainly is why include such legislative language not because it is controversial for Republicans but wouldn't it be placing the issue of benefits for the Supreme Court to look at if UAFA is passed within an immigration compromise ? What happens if DOMA is enforced by the Supreme Court and UAFA is passed? Wouldn't it create a quandary for gay rights!

I also think some of the Republicans and their efforts are sincere to reform immigration.Lindsay Graham is up for re-election next year yet he seems to be making quite an effort for reform despite a possible challenge from someone more to the right of him.

This "all or nothing strategy" will stop whatever momentum there is.

Too many people are counting on this for it to get derailed.

Ok on the flip side, let's say they remove UAFA, from the bill...The Supreme Court is expected to hear a challenge to DOMA this summer...Why because a binational couple cannot qualify for sponsorship from their American partner...so if DOMA ISN'T ruled unconstitutional and remains in force then what?...
This American govt.is so full of hypocrites its not even funny..all these Republicans on the bandwagon they are full of it...there laying in wait to blame the Dems for derailing this Bill for what ever reason they can come up with...Their are 3 potential bills now..and trust and believe if they can't come to some sort of agreement..it will never get done..If you think the republicans will gain anymore votes by helping this along...I think not & the republicans know this as well..the only thing they are worried about is there tone on immigration ..and let me tell you if a more qualified Republican runs for President vs a out of nowhere Democratic The Republican canidate will win..
I want this just as much as the next person..but this hoopla is a bunch of crap..my theory their is a bill all ready written out,the house committee has it in writing..the problem will be Who will flip 1st...and when it a pissing match amongst a bunch if men..u and I both know it goes nowhere...Besides the Hispanics caucus is onboard with the LGBT COMMUNITY ..so now I guess they will show them the door?..remember one hand washes another..

This whole damn thing is a nightmare..there are Dems as well as republicans that could care less about CIR..and what's written in it...they are already derailing this train before it leaves the station..
