They passed the healthcare act.

Furthermore, they may have had a majority in both houses, but they only had the supermajority for a very very brief period of time.

Don't forget:

a) Al Franken's seat was in recount for like 5 months (he didn't take office till July 7, 2009)

b) Ted Kennedy got brain cancer and died on August 25, 2009, a democrat was appointed to replace him, but the GOP filed suits, etc, so that he was effectively useless.

c) Brown (R) was elected to Ted Kennedy's seat and took office in January 2010.

Other than the few brief moments when the democrats had the 60 votes, the republicans did everything they could to filibuster since 60 votes were required to move past it.

Remember even Rep. Luis Gutierrez was angry at the Democrats' and President Obama not working on Immigration during a period when they controlled both chambers in 2008 and 2009?

He introduced CIR ASAP. But not even a committee hearing was conducted on that.

They are both politicians. At least, the GOP passed something through one chamber when they controlled the congress. This is in addition to the Social Security issue that they had to work on.

And I can also remember the absolute vitriol of those debates (the Republicans can spare me their "come to Jesus" and "we love immigrants" BS), the amount of former Republican supporters of CIR/Dream Act who said "no" because it was politically expedient to do so, etc.

You are right, politicians are politicians. The Democrats are moving because of politican expediency and I always believed that DACA was President Obama's olive branch because of his lack of movement on immigration.

But the amount of sheer hate mongering that has occurred over the last DECADE of dehumanizing immigrants and other minority groups is so much greater on the Republican side than on the Democratic side. They can kick rocks with their outreach. Hopefully Latinos don't have amensia.

The problem with the GOP is that they cannot get out a consistent message and their party is too divided.

On one hand, you have Marco Rubio attempting to reach out to Latino voters, and on the other hand within the same party, we have Tea party extremists that are not shy to express their hatred for people of color. So which one is it?!

Their message is inconsistent, that is why their strategy will not work because right after Marco Rubio, Bobby Jindal and other seemingly level-headed Republicans speak, the Tea party members will show up with their message of hatred that will in turn completely turn off the audience(s) that they're trying to "welcome" into their party.
